How do you burp the system?
 

This is probally a very simple question but I don't want to do anything wrong lol.

I did a search on the board for burp... and found the hose to the TB that needs disconnected (did that) and my resavor tank is just above the L mark.

So should I fill the resavor tank and then burp the system?! All I need to know is the burping procedure.

I don't see anything about the coolant hose going to the TB in the text below tho... whats that all about?

"IMPORTANT: You must "burp" the coolant system. Run the car for a about three minutes (don't drive it yet because you may be low on coolant) and shut it down. Put a rag over the engine coolant cap and open it up, pulse the big coolant hose, and top it off. You will need to do this several times. The first time you drive it take some water with you because you may get the "Add Coolant" buzzer and you don't want to drive the car for more than about 30 seconds with the buzzer on. Remove the radiator cap and top off the coolant level before you drive the car for the next three drives and you will have a well purged coolant system."

Do a search for Throttle body on the same page, and you'll see it.

quick answer, if you haven't already found it:

burping the system has nothing to do with the overflow tank.

you disconnect the coolant line to the throttle body, then put your coolant/water mix in through the filler neck (radiator cap). Then fill your overflow tank up to the 'L' mark.
Hook everything back up (don't forget the coolant line to the throttle body), and start the car... let it run until the thermostat opens up (turn your heater on - once you feel heat coming out, you're good). Turn off the car & let it cool down; then top off the filler neck. That should do it.

Also, you should only need to do this when you flsuh your coolant system. I can't think of too many other reasons to do it.

I have a question, what big coolant hose are they talking about, how can you reach that hose to burp it, I couldn't, please explain!

i think they're talking about the 'upper radiator hose' (the longer one). if you have an open air intake system, it's probably pretty accessible. i've still got the stock air box, and with it installed, you can't access this hose.

i'm in the process of doing mine, right now (again -- long story, so i won't bore you :).

At the bottom of Rob's notes is "my" note on removing the TB hose.

You remove the the TB hose while filling up the system until you have most of the fluid loaded. With this hose removed, it allows trapped air to vent out through it from the rear of the engine. Then reconnect the hose and place the rad cap back on.

You squeeze(hard and fast) the top rad hose a few times to force coolant flow and loosen up stuck air bubbles. Remove the cap and refill. Do this procedure a few time to "burp' most of the air out. You could also remove the TB hose again after squeezing.

If you are installing a new thermostat, drill a 1/16" hole on the opposite side from the jiggle hole. This will help burping.
