How did you ghetto guys remove these? (Clock surround Q)
Hey everyone,
I'm thinking out doing the clock surrounds in chrome, they look pretty dull black on black. http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=y5d8ed&outx=600&oq=0 How did you guys remove the black surround off the the clear plastic, each looks like its attached in the corners so I was thinking of taking a small drill bit to them and carefully removing them :) Did anyone else do it another way? |
You can just buy a new OEM replacement (both the gauge accents and plastic) for about 60 dollars from Malloy Mazda. I went that route last year, the chrome finish looks excellent brand new.
edit: I just noticed you live in Wales so shipping costs would be inflated, but its worth a shot. |
Thanks, trouble is $60 in the US = $150 over here :(

DS2000,
Actually, the US version was chromed. I believe those pieces are glued on there. You can break them off and then glue them back into place after you have the rings chromed I suppose. |

Thats what I was thinking tbh, I was just checking to see if any has already done this :)

Could be worth a try, I was saying that as a price direct from Mazda UK, over here we get ripped off for literally everything :(
Fuel is the worse, its $7 / gallon :( |
The surrounds are heat welded to small studs on the clear lens, they are fairly easy to pry loose. I used a utility knife to pry them off - I repainted mine Aluminum to match the Autometer guages I installed. I reattached them with some super glue.
