It's a valve. To really be a "gadget", it would have to be remotely operable via the PFC Commander.

I like it it can be open and closed while you are doing an oil change. This would enable you to fill up bottles with it rather than using a drain pan.

well I was thinkin of keepin my hands clean, but that works too

Does the new AEM PnP have a pinout for an oil drain valve or is it only available on the race version?

scratchjunkie 09-24-02 11:09 AM

fram makes one like that. they have it at auto zone

fdracer 09-24-02 12:04 PM

this aint worth it. the most time consuming part of the oil change is jacking up the car. removing the drain plug takes like 2 sec.

rotorbrain 09-24-02 12:26 PM

the savings in not having oil infested hands all the time. okay, maybe its not a savings, but you get the point. my hands have been dirty for 3 months now and i cant wait to keep them clean for just even a week. think about just reaching under there and opening the valve. no more on your back hassle. . . no more loosing the drain plug (or just the possibility). . . and no more hot hands from the oil. . . no more oil stained shirts that you didnt really want to get dirty. . . no more oil in your face. you dont even have to look for the socket and rachet to change the oil. . . so that means you cant loose that. this is a tool-less oil change device and i think its great!!! you could change your oil on the side of the road on day without even thinking about it. haha. maybe not that crazy, but i still think its nice.

do you guys really have that that much trouble removing the drain plug? then i guess this would be a great buy for you guys, btw fram has a similar device that's prolly cheaper.

I saw this at Pepboys on Saturday

I have one on a truck and honestly, it's totally worth it for the few bucks it costs. Let's face it, if you work with RX7s, anything that can make your life a tiny bit easier would help. I hop under the car, flip it open and go watch TV! Your hands aren't as dirty, and neither are your tools when you're making that last twist to remove the plug when the oil driblling out at you.

am i missing something here guys? it sounds to me like if you have this thing you can change your oil in the snap of a finger? how do you guys jack up your car, this takes about a hundred times longer for me than the half a second it takes to unbolt the plug.

JUSTgotMINE 09-25-02 11:46 AM

I don't think time is what we are saving here...it's just convienence and less messy. For under 20 bucks...why not.

SnowmanSteiner 09-25-02 11:53 AM

The one made by fram is crap. The hole is so tiny that it takes longer for the oil to drain. On top of that it can get clogged really easily, but considering we all change our oil before it turns nasty that probably wouldn't be a problem. The only thing I would be worried about on this setup is what if the valve accidentely opens on it's own while your driving. That could be really scary.

I don't think you need to jack up a truck. :)

what happens when you hit a nice tall speed bump? Seems like it could put a nice hole in your oil pan :/
