HOW TO : RHD Brake and Clutch Pedal to LHD

Tools Needed:

• Grinder / Cut off
• Bench Vise
• Sharpie
• Angle Meter
• Hammer
• TIG Welder AC

Project Duration: 3 Hours

BRAKE PEDAL

Step 1: Remove brake pedal pad from brake pedal arm using a cut off wheel / grinder.

Step 2: Remove brake pedal arm support bracket from right side of arm using a cut off wheel / grinder.

Step 3: Remove steering column support bracket (SCB) found at the bottom of the brake pedal assembly mount. This piece will be relocated in a later step.

Step 4: Place brake pedal arm in press and bend to 5 degrees off vertical towards the passenger side of car. If a press is not available a vise, some heat, and a hammer or large pipe wrench can be used to adjust your pedal arm angle. *NOTE: Measuring stock pedal angle reads 8 degrees off vertical towards passenger side of car. Using 5 degrees gives me more room on the gas pedal when wearing boots...

Step 5: Measure and mark 10" down from plunger pin on brake arm and cut to length. Place your brake pedal pad 10.25" from the brake pedal arm plunger pin to bottom of brake pedal pad and weld. At this time also relocate your steering column support bracket removed in step 3 to the right side of the brake pedal assembly bracket. Place so that the 90 degree vertical left side wing of the steering column bracket sits flush on the inside edge of the brake pedal assembly as shown.

CLUTCH PEDAL:

Step 1: Remove clutch pedal pad from clutch pedal arm using a cut off wheel / grinder.

Step 2: Remove clutch pedal assembly bracket using a cut off wheel / grinder and relocate. Place bracket 2" forward (Towards rear hatch) and set at a 10 degree slope from horizontal towards the roof of the car.

Step 3: Place clutch pedal arm in press and bend to 26 degrees off vertical to the passenger side. *NOTE: Measuring stock pedal angle reads 29 degrees off vertical towards passenger side of car. Using 26 degrees gives me more room between pedals when wearing boots...

Step 4: Measure down 9.75" from clutch pedal plunger pin to bottom of clutch pedal arm and make your cut.

Step 5: Measure down 10" from clutch pedal plunger pin to bottom of clutch pedal pad and clamp pad in place. Weld pad to arm

Step 6: Test fit in car.

Finished product after all the welding and relocation should look as below...

LHD manual pedals are in high demand for people to convert to manual from automatic. You can pick up JDM RHD pedals typically for less than comparable set of LHD pedals.

Even if you don't have a welder, most cities have shops that do welding. Something like this most likely wouldn't cost much to have done, like $20 or so.

Also, the pedal faces can be scrubbed with a stainless wire brush and will clean them up very nicely.

As for cleaning the pedals up they are off to powder coat now. Will post up pictures when they are all nice, new, and shiney...
