How come nobody has gears other than 3.90's and 4/10's?
Doesn't anyone make them or are they just not compatible with the carrier and diff? Thanks!

There are 4.3s, and I've heard of 4.88s or something, but haven't seen any.

Those are the stock gears for a automatic and the manual transmisison. RX7.com has diffrent gear ratios if your looking for one, but they dont get to much higher.
A cheap why of getting a lower gear is to install a smaller diameter tire. |
There are 4.3, 4.77, 4.8's if you have the money. They aren't as cheap as other cars with the 4.3's being around $450-500 just parts.

3.90 is stock for auto tranny, 4.10 is stock for manual tranny
most popular aftermarket is 4.30 or 4.33 (4.30 stock in later models also 5th gear is different) RX-8 uses 4.444, don't know if it's compatible with the FD's diff and they sell 4.57 and 4.77 for the RX-8 |
Are you looking for a stronger rear or something else? The rear from a turbo 2 fits in the FD housing and, I hear it's stronger.

4.3 was stock in higher end FDs in Japan - starting early on with the RZ (in about 95), but later being used in RS, R, Spirit R (A/B) and the last Bathurst special edition.
They aren't that popular outside of Japan due to the weight of the assembly - not in terms of performance, but in terms of costs (shipping) vs returns for parts exporters/wreckers. |
I run the 4.3 rear end and love it. www.rx7.com sells both 4.3s and 4.77s.....

sorry about not clarifying guys. wondering why there are not any options above 3.90; taller than 3.90. I'm looking for something around a 3.50 or so because I'm looking to do an ls2 swap. 3.90's = tons of wheel spin. I run 3.73's in my car now and they're way deep for street tires. It would seem like some gear vendor would make some if it were physcially possible to get them to fit the rear of an fd.
