hot cabin

Hey, first off, my AC doesnot work so I tend to notice every degree change there is. Now, my cabin usually gets pretty hot/warm after long and/or hard driving? It seems the plastic near the bottom of the shifter gets real hot too. Is this common? it probably is i just need to know for peace of mind. And,if necessary, is there anything i can do,besides fixing the a/c:D to keep down cabin temps.? Thanks alot -Jeff

That's probably your precat or cat heating up. It's common on most FD but not really normal or ideal.

I drove a few FDs when I bought mine and some get real hot around the trans tunnel. Mine is barely lukewarm. I would check if your cats are stock. Maybe your precat is clogged (may glow red). Are the heat shields there? There may be other reasons why your exhaust gets too hot (engine running rich maybe). Mods can cause higher exhaust temp too.

my car is definitely running rich...I can smell it. But i dont know how to adjust it so it doesnt run so rich.

Any engine error codes? O2 sensor may be bad. Has the plugs been changed regularly? If you smell fuel, your injector o ring or fuel pulsation damper is probably leaking. Failure of fuel pulsation damper can start a fire easily. Do a search on this and get it fixed immediately.

i just got new plugs last month, as well as a new fuel filter. I dont smell fuel in the engine bay or cabin, i can smell it in the exhaust. I thought fuel smell in rx-7's were common. Please, correct me if I am wrong.Thanks.

My car gets really warm in the center console also.. I've got a straight downpipe, midpipe and catback exhaust. So you're not the only one, and hopefully it's not anything bad. ;)

Mine too...

I wouldn't worry about it. I have no cats, single turbo, ect..... and without my ac it gets so hot I can barely breath in there. I can feel the heat through the console and heat coming through where my stereo would be (stolen and not replaced yet). These cars run hot so sounds normal to me.

thanks alot guys....I feel better already:)

Yes, they DO get hot.....hotter than my others cars, that is for sure. And I even have dark tinted windows that have a high heat rejection. But as all the others have said, it is just mainly the heat from the engine, turbos, and exhaust that make their way into the cabin.

Not to rub it in, but my a/c blows ICE COLD air, so I don't really notice the heat...... :D

MY A/C isn't ICE COLD! Bastards! All you 93 and 94 owners with R-12 instead of the worthless R-134 shyte like us poor 95 owners have. :)
