Hose is venting. Should be filtered?

There is a thick hose in the bay that is sucking air in. I don't know what it's used for but I know it shouldn't be venting. Should I get those tiny air filters and fit it on??

WaLieN 02-15-04 08:33 PM

That's the airpump hose -- and yes, it should be sucking in filtered air.

Ripzta 02-15-04 08:35 PM

Shouldn't I connect this back to the airpump?? The car has been like this since the rebuild. Excuse the dirty intake!

clayne 02-16-04 12:51 AM

Technically it does not NEED to have a filter.

The air is passed to a seperate chamber which surrounds the lower intake manifold, and then based on the relief1, relief2, etc. solenoid valves is passed to the catalytic converter.

You're in AUS, I'd just pull it out entirely.

OneBadRx7 02-16-04 01:08 AM

it is hooked up to the airpump already but it should hook up to the intake you have. If you are running a midpipe just get rid of that thing anyways. If you are running the stock midpipe then you better keep it, lol.

If you dont want to remove the emissions crap, just put a small filter on it and call it a day. Using a small filter is easier than removing the emissions. :p:

Does the car still run ok with the pump removed and cat removed? Is there not an issue with it not ideling right?

dubulup 02-17-04 07:21 AM

yes, there will be an issue because air is also being pumped into the LIM via the ACV (Air Control Valve)...Secondary Air injection...when it's not being pumped thru the cat (or on heavy loads when the AP disengages), you will run a little richer without it, if you are using the stock ECU. How bad of an issue, I don't know. I hear your car will stink real bad on cold starts too.

My FD sounded like it had a bridgeport when I removed the a.p and the "lame pipes". :D

Did it stink? Yep. I like the smell of racing fuel though so it didn't bother me.

looks like a limp noodle haha

I removed that hose. And about idle problems, I've got one but started before I pulled that hose off!

You rekon it could be my airpump that's making my idle play around? It idles around 750-1500rpm but doesn't bounce just stays in that range. Until I turn the car off with the turbo timer running (keys out) that idle will drop down to about 750rpm...

DrunkenBowler 02-18-04 01:10 PM

Emissions = crap
No emissions = very good
I'd agree with the removal of the air pump. All it is is a few hoses and a few bolts. Nothin' too big.
