Hose Techniques silicon hose. Good or Bad?
I bought a Hose Techniques silicon hose kit and noticed when I bend the hose it creases at the sharp end of the bend. Is this normal? and will it cuase problems by cutting of air flow if the bend is to sharp? and we all know the rats nest has some tight bends.
Anyone have Hose Techniques silicon hoses installed? Any Problems? Thanks |
I do, and I haven't had any problems yet. I have yet to really push the car because of the recent snowfall though, but other than that, it works fine for me. Who did you order them through?

Im using hose techniques too and everyone I know uses them as well, I just ordered allot of the smaller hose I think its the 2.5mm becuz its allot thicker than the 3mm and seems to not crease at all no matter how much you bend it thats why im using that, as far as withstanding heat goes, you can hold a flame under one of those hoses for an hour and it will not start on fire it will just get red hot, after it gets red hot and you let it cool down its still as soft and flexible as it was before! There shit is good...:)

i installed it, you just have to anticipate the lines that are going to bend and make them longer so you can route them away from pinch spots

I just got done using the Hose Technique stuff for my vac line job, and it worked great. If something is a very tight radius , you either make the hose a little longer to soften the radius, or you can insert a spring from a ball point pen in there to keep it open.. I didn't have any problems with kinking when I did it though..

Excellent! Thanks for the feedback.... I bought my kit from RX7 Store. Now its time for the fun...Installing it!!!!

I replaced all of mine about a year and a half ago with the HT lines and have had no problems at all. The hose job isn't really that bad, just take your time and be careful with the soleniods.

And it will withstand an open flame for an hour?? I don't think so. Most people (except for RonKMiller) will say the Hose Techniques hose is fine. It worked great for me. |
Before I bought the kit I read alot of people badmouthing it, but I bought it for the simplicity and have had absolutly no problems so far. I have yet to see a complaint from someone who actually owns the kit. Good luck.

I've only used HT on my cars. There really aren't any sharp bends to cause it to crease. I also use the 2.5 which is alot thicker walled and tighter seal.

I too used the Hose Technique's stuff and it worked great for me. This is not BS, but I bought a little of the Neo/Baker stuff, the Viton stuff, and the HT stuff. I, myself, with my own 2 eyes, compared the kink resistance of tight bends. The HT stuff won without even being close so that's why I did my whole engine with it. And as you also questioned, if you get a kink on a tight bend, then YES, that is a problem!!! It will stop the airflow, just like when you bend a garden water hose. So make sure you intelligently route the hoses. Pay even closer attention to when you bolt the upper intake manifold back on- there are a few spots that can crush hoses that look fine prior to the re-assembly. You'll love their stuff. :) (damn, I almost sound like I work for them) -Tom |
I think their hose is great. IMO, the kit is a bit overkill but I will use the leftover hose for other projects. If I did not need all of the extra hose I would just buy the hose that you need for the job and forego the other hose.

I've been using it since last november and it seems to be doing fine...you will find that if you cut the hose too long sometimes it will kink...they supply enough hose for you to screw up a lot.
