Horns horns horns...

I have a service manual and I know how to search. (Now that those formalities are out of the way....)

What do I have to remove to get to my horns to replace them?

Thanks!

If you have a FSM and searched, why the question?

You MIGHT be able to get to them from underneath the car with the belly pan off. Easiest way is to pull the front bumper, they're really wedged all up in the front bumper.

You don't have to pull the bumper. I replaced mine years ago because the oem horns are pretty worthless. As I recall, pulling the belly pan did the trick.

the bigger question is, what will you be replacing them with? I have my bumper off and might as well put some new horns on too.

I think getting to the horns would best be done by pulling the bumper off.
I'm planning on changing the car horn once I get around to ordering the oil coolers I want.

Once that is done, I'll be swapping them out for Mazda3 horns. For whatever reason, that sound agrees with me.

I had to swap out the horn on my Miata PRHT. The horn that comes with it is basically the same as the one the FD has. It sounded very Mickey Mouse. I upgraded the horn to Mazda3 and now it sounds a whole lot better. Not to mention louder.

Funny how those guys are swapping out their horns for those awful sounding Hellas horns or something like that. Those things are very loud. But don't make a pleasant sound.

You can go to your local Mazda3 forums and pick up horns for practically nothing! :)

That is what I was hoping! I can barely hear mine as it is. Yesterday, some old fart in a Buick not once, but twice ran me out of my lane. Unfortunately the 2nd time I had no lane to go in and was flying down the side of the road!

I was planning on helping you, but insulting a veteran member will get you nowhere here.

Thread closed, I recommend you spend more time searching before starting your next thread.

Jerij was gracious enough to PM charlie and myself to clear the air and apologize. I appreciate the gesture and reopened the thread :icon_tup:

I'd recommend you check out the Hella Supertones, they're loud as hell and install pretty easily. You'll need to have the front bumper off to properly install them...... I'll dig around, there is a video floating out there of me blasting the horns on the highway :)

I look forward to seeing that video myself. I am looking to replace my horns myself, I have also heard that RX-8 horns are sometimes put in? I have not seen it on the forums but have just heard it in a conversation as far as I remember. I would need to hear the RX-8 Horn to decide I guess. The stock horn reminds me of the road runner....MEEP MEEP.

i replaced mine with the rx-8 dual horns, it sounds great

I've been using horns from a 1996 Mazda MX-6. They're louder and sound much better than the FD3S horns. I also installed them so they're not visible.

Yup, RX-8 horns for the win:

anyone know how to wire up horns to aftermarket steering wheels? i got hella horns and plan for them to replace my stock horns using its own wiring (since idk if the stock wiring for the horn actually works)

the ones that came with the hella horns show a diagram but thats with an on off switch for the horns..... i guess i can follow that and just remove the switch part?

If you go to Griots you can actually make a selection and hear the horn itself. I chose and "American" old style horn that sounds nice and loud, like something you would hear in the movies. It should be adequate for what I need.
