Hood will not close, help!
I have spent the last 30min searching for an answer to this but the only threads that come up are about getting the hood open.
My problem is that the hood cable has tension to it and if I manualy set the hood latch to the close position with a screw driver the cable can open it just fine. when I manualy set the latch to the "close" position it is very hard to do and must be forced. Is there any way I can make the hood latch easier to close? I need to get my hood closed!:( |
Any ideas?

i'm not arround my car to see how it works, but you could probubally try loosening the bolts holding the latch and slide it up a little maybe. again, not sure if that will work with the hood, but it does work for the rear hatch.

I am not sure what you mean, but what i would do is try to figure out if the cable is binding or of it is the latch. You can disconnect the cable and see if it moves freely (just dont close the hood, that would suck) and then play with the latch. Maybe the cable is rusted also check that the cable is allowing the full travel of the locking mechanism in the closed position. Also check that the locking part that goes around the d ring on the hood is not in the lock position if it is then you just need to pull the cable and Pry up the lock.

The cable is fine, the problem is the latch requires way too much force to get it into the "closed" position.

I assume you have tried lubing it? Did anything happen to bend it? Could something be stuck in the mechanism?

Its almost like the spring all of a sudden became too tight. Even with a screw driver pushing the latch closed there is so much resistance.

IMO, there isn't much we can do to help without knowing why it's doing that. Dave |
