HKS Megaflow Intake system
 

I am looking into buying this intake for my FD. Does anyone have this intake? How do you like it? Any pics? Also, has anyone heard or experienced any problems with this intake? Thanks guys!

Is this the one that uses the foam filters? Don't get an intake that uses this trash. The foam filters don't filter worth a damn and don't give you any more power than a decent filter. Stick with a cold-air intake, like M2 or rx7fashion, or do the poor man's cold air mod to the stock box. If you want an open intake, the filters on the Apex'i are considered the best.

I have this intake. It works fine.

According to one test on the net, the filter doesn't work as well others, but there has never been anything else to support that. Blitz also received low ratings in filtering as well, but HKS and Blitz are the top selling systems overseas.

And everyone seems to miss this part:

So, apparently, the people that are reporting the information on that website, aren't the ones actually doing the tests...

You'll also notice the perforance gain, while not on a FD, it's pretty much the same across the board. You'll never notice a 1hp difference.

Anyway, the HKS does intake requires a little more maintainance than the others. You need to change out the filters about every 3000 miles, but to me, that's a good thing. I just change mine when I change my oil. I did some research on it before I bought it and it seems the HKS system doesn't hamper performance when the filters need to be changed like other intakes.

Personally, if I had the choice, I would get the Blitz intake. It looks sweet inside the engine bay. Unfortunately, it was on backorder when I wanted to get it. There are cold air induction kits as well, however, they are quite pricey. But, in general, the colder the better.

Foam filters are junk..serious I do not recommend this intake unless you want to clean and oil the filter every damn month. Really is does flow ok (but not any better)...but I guarantee you will see dirt in you intake tract !

I got the apexi unit and it works great....beautiful look too, when I get done polishing it :cool: :D

piece of junk. I have just ordered a Apexi power
Intake to make the switch. The HKS filtration is
very, very poor believe me. You can see the dust
in your intake pipe just after a day with this crap
on your car.

I don't know how many single turbo cars I have seen this filter on (both FDs and Supras).. I have always wanted to see the look on one of their faces when a chunk of that foam got sucked into their turbine. Seriously, all you have to do is look closely at the filter element on those things.. look how visibly pourous it is! Sure that promotes air flow, but how much else is getting through.

93 SSM - Apex'i intake

Well, we've established that foam filter such as HKS's Megaflow and GReddy's Airinx are crap. I addressed the archieves for my question, but I read so many different answers i don't know what to think. I've narrowed it down to the M2 and Apexi intakes. Keep in mind that price doesn't matter to me. I realize that the M2 is a little more costly. I'd like to stay on the stock twins for a couple years, or until I can upgrade to single. Drag/Racing will be the cars forte. So i guess its hot air open v. closed box cool air. Thanks for the help.

The HKS (and new Trust) is fine if you replace the foam filter instead of cleaning it (on NA cars) But for our cars i'd be worried that the foam couldn't handle the heat and break down and suck in fragments.

I have the Blitz. I love the looks and the performance was instantly noticable. It also came with a heat shield (Apexi doesn't). None of the single turbo racers use cold air boxes.

Isn't the HKS one called Super Mushroom of Death? I here the foam gets sucked into the turbo.

HKS is replacing the foam system with mesh type filters. I don't think you want it.
