HKS F-Con V-PRO

I did a search and didn't get the results I was looking for...so...
Is anyone in the US currently using the HKS F-Con for their engine management system? What's your feedback and what type of power are you making?

Thanks in advance...

rynberg 04-24-07 09:06 PM

I've never seen anyone actually using it....why bother when there are readily available ecus that people know how to use and tune, and that are probably cheaper.

afawaterpolo 12-02-07 01:59 PM

Not really cheaper in terms of the cost of the unit. Let me explain, here in the U.S. it looks like all ECUs are close to if not more than $1000 on average. In Japan you can pick the HKS F-Con V-Pro for around $800 with the vehicle specific harness to piggy back off the stock computer. The Power FC with Commander which I currently have in my FD runs you about $750 with shipping.

It all depends on where you get it from and who, but a buddy of mine who owns a shop in Japan gets wicked deals for me from time to time and I am fortunate that he can send them to me very cheap ($20 - $30 for shipping) b/c there is a U.S. post office in the area (It’s a military base so they all have U.S. post offices).

The only thing I can figure is that maybe the price for the tune of using the F-Con V-Pro is what limits people from using it here in the U.S.

It's my understanding that the F-Con V-Pro was designed for later year RX-7s (96+) which wouldn't be compatible with our engine harness.

I've heard great things about the F-Con as an engine management system, but I think someone would need to do some harness hacking to make it work.

the Fcon Vpro Gold is a great ecu better than the PFC.. many japanese tuners swear by it... 32x32 maps..

only problem is.. it can only be tuned by HKS authorized Distributers..

not anyone can get their hands on the Power Writer software and cable..

so no more Home brew...

i have 3 friends with FCons on their cars

one Evo, one R33 GT-R and one FD with a T51R Kai

What year is the FD, Ottoman?

Running an HKS F Con Pro V with a bridgeport and T51r Kai - 389rwhp at 1 bar.

Built and tuned bu reworx.com who advised 470-480rwhp at 1.2 bar on current set up once the engine is run in a bit more currently 1400 miles.

Understand this is a good result :icon_tup:

The HKS F-Con V-Pro is the way to go, you can fine tune so much better than with the power FC. Speaking of set-ups, when I was stationed in Japan my buddies FD was running an HKS F-Con V-Pro ECU, Full Bridge and a T51R Kai SPL at 1.5 bar putting about 600 RWHP. He has since sold the engine and turbo and has a combo FD/FC /Cosmo engine setup with a TO4R pushing 500 RWHP at 1.2 Bar.

Also the HKS ECU will work on 1992 and up FD’s (8 or 16 bit) you just have to get the vehicle specific piggy back harness for them.

Yes the Japanese do swear by the HKS units over the power FC’s, not that the power FC is a bad unit, the HKS is just more precise and from what I saw at the tuning shops when they would swap a Power FC car over to an HKS F-Con V-Pro they would always see a noticeable increase in overall HP and Torque numbers not just peak. It is true that only HKS certified dealers are supposed to be able to tune but from what I saw there are a number of tuners who are not official HKS certified shops but had the HKS software to tune. This was up in Northern Japan by Misawa Air Base where the number of shops are very limited versus Tokyo where it’s a freaking candy store for parts.

I have seen a few supras using it...It is a rock solid EMS, but the problem is that you have to be an HKS pro dealer to tune it...not something that you can tweak on yourself

skir2222 03-22-08 06:32 PM

Can anyone tune these in the usa? Those are some good numbers.

Overspooled, if you have the software and dongle you can tune it yourself. I have the software in my posession lol ;)

Not to turn this thread into an argument by any means but I disagree that the Japanese swear by the HKS unit over the PFC. When I went to Japan (Tokyo area and Osaka), every single FD and FC I saw at 7's day (about 300 or more RX7's) utilized the Power FC and all the shops I went to (R Magic, Knightsports etc) swore by the Power FC. Maybe in northern Japan where you were is different? Anyway they are both tried and true great ecus but I tended to see more non-rotary cars with HKS V Pro gold's and more rotary powered cars with Power FC's.

you are a lucky man, I scrapped the idea of running this in my supra because there are only about 5 good tuners that I know of in the US and only 1 that I know personally...

Chris_72 03-23-08 06:50 PM

They pick their ECUs depending on the purpose and budget of the car.

For as many tuners like Power FC for its price, and ease of use, there are tuners that like the HKS Units.

The HKS Unit is hands down a more powerful unit. The Power FC is not as powerful, but it works great for a single map street car.

ahad 05-06-08 02:31 PM

man i dunno im really confused abt whether it can be tuned or not!

circusmagic 05-06-08 04:59 PM

the HKS Fcon Vpro product is not sold in the USA, which my supervisor (who also works for HKS) informed me that the main reason is due to legality issues. as for the product... its a hot seller, yet Motec M4 is also another hot product.

The HKS F CON V PRO IS SOLD in the USA. There are 14 HKS Pro dealers in Southern california alone. There are many other HKS V PRO tuners in the USA for the 2jz-gte/rb26dett/rotary engines outside of california too.

I can name of 3-4 Rotary tuners in so cal for the F con V pro, but they are expensive, but not Motec expensive.

ahad 05-07-08 02:39 PM

neway guys i talked to the local tuner here and he doesnt have the FCON software so hes saying he cant tune it...anybody have it?

become an hks authorised dealer and they give you the power writer software for free

only authorised hks dealers can have it

arghx 05-08-08 08:44 PM

I don't doubt it's good software, and I don't doubt that it's better than the PFC in a lot of ways, but what good is it if you don't have anyone dependable who knows how to use it?

You need an HKS pro dealer to tune it...Ben Phillips (pre-racing.com) is among the best if not the best in the supra community.
