Hks F Con

Hey guys

A friend purchased his fd with a HKS F CON.
What kind of Ecu add on is that?

does it need some sort of a datalogic to be tuned ? ( like apexi power fc?)

if yes ...does anyone have it ?

Thanks
Con

That thing is very old school. Better off just getting a power fc.

Any idea if the datalogic is suitable for the 2002 power fc models?or has to be a specific one ?

thanks

The Datalogit works on all PowerFC's. Hit up the PowerFC section and read the FAQ.

The FCON is a VERY simple and old-school fuel computer. It was cool in 1995, it's way outdated now.

I beg to differ. Maybe the base version, but the F-CON V Pro is essentially as popular as the Apexi Power FC in Japan. In fact, for several years, it was essentially THE ECU of choice for FD tuners in Japan as well as other areas of the world. You can read about it's capabilities here (diff than the one GoodfellaFD3S posted a link to): http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=1965

The major reason why the F-CON V Pro never took off in the US is b/c HKS has some marketing geniuses (serious sarcasm here). They only gave the tuning software and firmware to HKS Certified Pro Dealers (not even just Authorized Distributors, but you had to be a Pro Dealer as well). These "gradations" are based on HUGE *mandatory* monthly buy-ins, and simply said, only the largest car sales markets can afford such large monthly buy-ins (Supra shops, WRX shops, and the like). No FD or rotary specialist can move THAT large volume of HKS parts, and as such, no FD or rotary specialist is an HKS Pro Dealer. As such, no FD or rotary specialist has much experience - and more importantly - or the tools necessary to tune the ECU. And for obvious reasons, you don't want a piston engine tuner attempting to tune your rotary ;)

Ah, true - I wasn't thinking about the FCON V Pro, but the older PFC-FCON. The newer FCON is good from what I know, but NO ONE has really done anything with it in the US. Another place where HKS USA dropped the ball big time.

Con, I may be able to sell it for ya in JDM land. Not sure how much they go for, as I never bothered to look...

Hi,

I'm going to bump this for a couple of reasons.

I know an HKS pro dealer, and you're right -- his bread and butter is Supras, BMW's and Lexuses (Lexi??). But, he does tune (NOTE: Tune, NOT build) some 12a cars for challenge cup.

ANYWAY -- he was selling the HKS fcon V-pro, as a fully closed loop, map it and forget it, FC for the FD, he says the processing power is astonishing and it can do it. He'd have to "call the boys in Japan" to see if he could get some maps for rx-7's. There seemed to be some interesting features with it. Including 4 programmable dials, for adjusting anything, in 12 degree increments. I'm not sure exactly what you'd want to adjust on the fly -- mabey leading and trailing timing?

Any other info on this? He ballparked the whole setup at about 4k Canadian, with the wideband.
