high starting idle problem
i've searched for this thread but i couldn't come to a conclusion about what to do. i really only knoticed this problem occurs in the FC's...anyway what happens is when i start the car from a cold motor, the rpm's start gonig up to 2500 right before spooling the turbo. its really annoying having this idle problem and was wondering what could be wrong? I just bought the car and its got, apexi bov, hks cf exhaust, hi flow cat, profec b boost controller, aluminum radiator, ast overflow tank, and blitz turbo timer. after about 20 seconds or so of idling that high, it goes down to normal around 1000 rpm...
i was thinking that there maybe some sort of leak in the vacuum lines...so i'm planning on replacing all the hosing with silicone hosing. any opinions and/or thoughts are gladly appreciated thanks! -Dan |
That is totally normal, and not very good for the engine. As part of the stock ECU warm up system it has whats called the acclerated warmup system (AWS). It does exactly what you desribed, and it designed to get the engine warmer faster. Simply tapping the throttle brings it back down to normal levels.

pheww...man being new to rotary scares the sh*t outta me...thanks a lot...but you said its not very good for the engine, so just by tapping the gas, will it fix it? thanks a lot...

You can also eliminate the AWS and and replace it with a 330Ohm half-Watt resistor.
Or start your car in gear. |

As will starting the car in gear, as Jonski pointed out (forgot all about that). Don't be scared by rotaries, just be intimidated but willing to learn. |
