high rpm hesitation

hey im pretty new at this i picked up a 93 r1 about 6 months ago and over the winter i put on a 3" greddy exhoust it all went on smoothly. except i had no place to hook up the egr so i just caped the hose and on the turbo manifold when i was bolting it in the cast iron peice thats threaded busted off on one of the bolts. witch i can get fixed when i do non seqential. i also cut out some of the bottom of the air box for more air flow. so i finnaly took it out for just a little test and when it was all nice and warm i gave it and noticed that at about 7000rpm i got a major hesitation almost like hitting the gov. but a bitt different and it back fires like crazy. i dfont know too too much about these engines but any help would be very usefull?

Did you keep the catalytic converter when you put the 3" exhaust on it? What's your boost? Stock ecu? Other mods?

drake696 04-04-07 01:16 PM

no it got a strait pipe no cats its pretty much completely stock running on stock boost

NissanConvert 04-04-07 01:30 PM

well, first off you desperately need some sort of restriction in your exhaust if you're on bone stock turbos. The stock wastegate can't accomodate that low backpressure. How do you know you're running stock boost pressure? I'm hoping you have a boost gauge of some sort. It's possible you're hitting fuel cut because you're over-boosting.

Do you have a plastic ast?

Sounds like fuel cut to me. You have to much airflow for a stock setup. Get a boost gauge and monitor how much the car is measuring at the manifold. You need to be a little more careful or you're going to pop a seal.

i got a apc boost guage and controller but i havent hooked it up yet i wasnt really aware that that could happen soo i will make sure to get on that asap. do u think if i do the non seqential mod it would help? or should i just throw the catalytic converter back in?

non-sequential won't help at all -since both turbos come on it'll be harder to maintain boost levels. get a restrictor plate or put a high flow cat on it.

Put the cat back on and start reading here before you blow your motor.....
