High oil pressure question

I just changed the oil in my 7 and I am running into a wierd problem.

I went from 10-w30 to 20-w50 (hot florida summers, i figured thicker oil would be benifitial during this time of extream heat). Well after all was said and done (4.5 quarts were used) my oil pressure is extreamly high! I cannot even approach 3500 rpm's with out jumping up to ~110 psi! Even when the car is fully up to temp I am having this issue.

I am going to simply change the oil back to 10-w30 in a few days unless anyone has any other ideas that may help me.

-thanks in advance

Your oil pressure sending unit may be a POS. To rule that out, you want to check the oil pressure with an external analog pressure gauge (remove the sending unit and measure the pressure directly). Rev the motor up and check pressure again. I don't think changing the oil weight as you did would affect the pressure to the degree you indicate (assuming you had "normal" pressure before).

BTW, NICE CAR!!!! White is so pretty on FDs, as is silver :)

the sending unit was working just fin before the oil change?

Such a random thing to have happen...... Oh well, I will look into it either way. Thanks!

Your oil pressure is fine. Thicker oil = higher pressure at lower revs, the oil relief valve is set for 110 psi. 10-30 is fine for most conditions and will yeald slightly higher fuel mileage than 20-50

I see over 100 all the time, when cold i can see up to 140 with only a few rpm's and when it is hot my idle is about 65psi

What he said.

I run 15w50 all the time and it reads higher than normal too.
