HID Clearance
Hello
I am about to purchase a HID H4 Hi/Low and I wanted to know if there are any clearance problems with the stock pop-ups. I thank u all in advance Riccardo |
to be honest dude, not really sure about the fitment, but keep in mind that the stock pop ups are not made for the glare that hid bulbs put out, i.e. you will most probably be blinding others on the road. you might want to look into getting a set of 99 spec rx housings. Somebody makes HID pop up housings for the rx that looks identical to the stocks (glass lens though). not sure who makes it, but I'm sure you'll find it if you search.

^^ Good site. It shows you with pictures how HID kits look in halogen housings. Do a search here on the forum for HID lights. A handfull of people run those h4 HID kits. I think most of them aim their lights really low to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. |
Did MAzda modify the stock housings in 99? I was under the impression they never updated the lighting of the FD's throughout the years.... even though the lighting sucks!
If you are going to use the stock enclosures DO NOT use H4 HID bulbs... they will blind people and will not have a proper cut-off or light pattern -- proper aiming will not cure ALL of it. The best bet for now would be to modify a stock housing with a HID projector from another high-end vehicle or and aftermarket one... these will have a proper cutoff and will completely ignore the reflectors built into the stock housings. Overall lighting will improve as well as you wont piss people off. ~Kris |
I love my Catz HIDs. Easy install, good fit, lighting is awesome, and no blinding of other cars. One of my best mods, which is saying alot :)

You will most likely sacrifice High/Low beam operation.... which I don't think is DOT legal, but looking at the single turbo forum, I don't think 80-90% of the FD's are 100% Legal....

Guys thanks for your replies
It is a Hi/Low H4 kit Very interesting points - do you think there is enough room from the back of the H4 bulb (6cm+) for the rubber cover to fit correctly ? Thanks once more |
