Hi. I'm looking into buying a 3rd generation RX-7, what should I know and look for?

I decided to go back to college after taking a year off, and I'm selling my 2000 Audi S4 and looking for something a little more affordable. I'm looking at a few different options, but one would be a 3rd generation RX-7. What should I know about these cars when I'm looking at one? What are some comon problems I should look out for? Would you recommend them? Thanks for your help, and if you know anyone selling one with low miles, please drop me a line.

BTW, If you want to check out the 2000 S4 I'm selling, click here.

looking for something more affordable? i wouldn't classify rx-7s as affordable, especially if you don't do the work yourself. initial buy price can be relatively cheap but maintaining it isn't. anyways, try http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/buyaused.htm and also the search.

I'd go with a Touring for a new guy. It can have everything from leather to Bose stereo, that keeps the car's price up in demand after you buy it. You can also get an auto if you want. For instance: I got a 1994 RX7 Touring w/ bose and leather for about 15K. Once I had it for some months it is now at a blue book value of $19,900!

I did the same thing S4 to rx7, I would argue the key is getting a good looking rx-7 for a GOOD price. Worry about the engine later ie use the money you saved by buying a cheaper FD to rebuild the motor depending on what your ultimate goals are.
