hesitation/backfire issue
 

have 1995 fd auto 27000miles

I Searched quite a bit and also went through the first 35 pages to find my answer and couldnt so im posting....if there is an answer please send me a link


so i just put on my new downpipe . Didnt really boost it at all.....50 miles later my girlfriend hits a semi tire on the freeway and ripped off my front bumper.......

issue is ---- when my car is fully wammed up i get on it and it just dies out a 4k rpms like it wont go past that it just spudders and hesitates
---the thing is when my car is just started and hasnt been running for awhile it runs just fine and boosts all the way through

the dp is close to the cold side of the back turbo...could it be heating it up and this be the issue??? could the tire could of damaged something specific?

help please!!


BACKFIRE---- when i press on the gas more than half way and then release it backfires 4 or 5 times....this issue has been going on since before the downpipe

still stock ecu? sounds like limp mode to me, pull the codes by jumping the proper connectors in the "engine diagnostics" box under the hood. I highly doubt your down pipe is related to this issue. altho if you are on the stock ecu the o2 sensor in the downpipe is pretty important, so check the o2 sensor wiring as well.

my check engine light is not on... and yes stock ecu

i have an exhuast leak (pretty bad) could that be causin it)

Yes! where is the exhaust leak? Too much boost=fuel cut. Now usually the fuel cut would hit at higher rpms where the wastegate just won't flow enough and boost creeps up too high... If is backfiring though.... check your map sensor. Map might not see the boost correctly.

i have a hks boost gauge and it reads normal boost. the exhaust leak is where the downpipe meets the turbo part of the gasket blew ouw and it leaks by one of the bolts..


what do you mean "checkz' my map sensor?

ur boost gauge is standalone.
the map sensor is this black thing with an electrical connector on it and a vacuum line ran to the bottom of it. It is labeled boost sensor or sensor boost on it. It is mounted on the firewall behind the throttle body. Check to make sure the vacuum line is properly attached. Also, be sure there is no check valve on its vacuum line, u may see a lil black plastic thing in the vacuum line, which is ok, its just an airfilter and is supposed to be there, but if u see a white and green check valve remove that.

i'm not too familiar with the stock ecu... but, check spark plug wires, spark plugs (even if they are new, pull them and inspect) could be several things to be honest. did u check to see if the check engine light functions (key on, engine off, all bulbs in dash should light up). Also, maybe the check engine light does not set for all codes that may set the ecu into "limp mode" so try pulling codes regardless.

you may really want to look up pineapple racing or any legit rotary shop near by to do a full inspection of the engine bay, wiring, ect since the car was sitting for so long it would be a real shame for something stupid to cause engine failure on your rare find!

and wow, when my FD was running I refused to let anyone drive it, especially my girlfriend at the time! :D
