Help: Starter Problem!

Hey all,

I'm having a little issue with my starter and before I dig in much deeper, I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem.

The car has been in storage now for almost 8 months due to the winter here and has not been moved around much. I have noticed the last few times I tried to start it, it takes a few clicks of the key before the starter will engage. I can hear the solenoid clicking, but no starter engagement.

At first I thought it could be the brushes but the car has extremely low miles and they wouldn't be worn that much unless there had been an issue. I removed the starter, checked the brushes and they are not worn or dirty at all.

Before I go through the wiring I just wanted to check and see if there is an obvious and easy fix for this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Hulan

Is your battery fully charged?

I guess it is a mistake that could easily be made, but yes the battery is fully charged. I remove the battery for the winters and store it in the house. It is brand new and holds it's charge very well.

I have also tried the battery from the fd in the supra and visa versa. Same issue with the starter engaging in the fd, works fine in the supra.

Thanks,

Hulan

There's a thread on what's known as the "click click start" problem. Search around for it.

There are a few fixes out there - bypassing the security system relay in the driver's kick panel, adding a relay to the starter wiring (Pettit makes a kit that does this).

At the end of the day, it's a weirdness with the wiring in the FD, there's nothing wrong with the starter itself.

I have done the 1jz swap in my car and I still have the "CLICK CLICK START" problem. I tried the relay bypass, but that did not fix the problem. I guess I will have live with it!
