Help: Starter Problem!
Hey all,
I'm having a little issue with my starter and before I dig in much deeper, I'm wondering if anyone has had the same problem. The car has been in storage now for almost 8 months due to the winter here and has not been moved around much. I have noticed the last few times I tried to start it, it takes a few clicks of the key before the starter will engage. I can hear the solenoid clicking, but no starter engagement. At first I thought it could be the brushes but the car has extremely low miles and they wouldn't be worn that much unless there had been an issue. I removed the starter, checked the brushes and they are not worn or dirty at all. Before I go through the wiring I just wanted to check and see if there is an obvious and easy fix for this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Hulan |
Is your battery fully charged?

I have also tried the battery from the fd in the supra and visa versa. Same issue with the starter engaging in the fd, works fine in the supra. Thanks, Hulan |
There's a thread on what's known as the "click click start" problem. Search around for it.
There are a few fixes out there - bypassing the security system relay in the driver's kick panel, adding a relay to the starter wiring (Pettit makes a kit that does this). At the end of the day, it's a weirdness with the wiring in the FD, there's nothing wrong with the starter itself. Dale |

I have done the 1jz swap in my car and I still have the "CLICK CLICK START" problem. I tried the relay bypass, but that did not fix the problem. I guess I will have live with it!
