help, rust in gas tank neck
 
so i discovered rust in the neck of my gas tank... any idea how i should handle this? is this piece a universal piece i can get at an autozone etc? or mazda specifically?

I doubt it would be univeral. It looks like it is just surface rust, why not just clean it up?

i was thinking to clean it up but not sure whats the best way to do it..

would it be alright if i took it apart and shot a sand blaster down in?

try some rust solvent and a dremel ...

Pick up some rust converter. It comes in a spray can. I believe Duplicolor makes some. It converts the rust to black primer via chemical reaction. I have used it on gas tanks and chassis before. If there is a lot of buildup I would sand it down first.

Yes, this is an excellent suggestion. Works like a charm. :icon_tup:

I would SERIOUSLY be careful about using a Dremel or any power tool around this area....unless you have all your affairs on this Earth already in place....
