Help Quick! How do you depressurize the fuel system!!!
Replacing my fuel pulsation damper right now.

I just loosened the gas cap and put a rag under any fuel hoses I removed. However, I think there is a write-up on Rob Robinette's site.

Pull out the main fuel pump fuse and start the car. Let it run until it dies.

what if theres a leak though? My dampener is leaking I think, and I'm trying to replace it today, just don't know if starting the car is a good idea. Is there a way to release the pressure without starting it?

just take the gas cap off and its ok? no need to depressurize? I'm worried about fuel spraying everywhere and causing a problem as I remove and replace the FPD. I just don't wanna burn my eyebrows off or something doing this. Fuel scares me. OK, so again to be redundant, no need to pull the big green fuse (circuit relay) and run the car and let it die...correct? just open the cap and get started taking the manifold off.

Just take the gas cap off. no need to run the car, just keep a rag handy when you disconnect the fuel line, and the fuel will SEEP out, not spray |
Taking the gas cap off will release the pressure in the tank, but I don't think it will in the lines. Fuel pumps usually have a check valve to keep the pressure in the lines for better/quicker starting.

Alright, I just made another post on doing this installation. I can't seem to find the FPD. I'm guessing its under the rats nest, but i don't want to pull all those vacuum lines off if I don't have to. Write up anybody?

Like I said, many users just did this. Here is a thread I found when I was doing a search before I did my FPD replacement. This has all the information for you and pictures to help. If you need more help, PM me. I just did mine couple days ago.
The FPD is deep down by the engine. You need to remove the rats nest, there are four bolts holding it down. Also, while you are there, I would suggest replacing the vac. lines as mine were HARD as a rock and brittle. |
