The Name Is Stu From Scotland,
Just Got A FD3S Couple Of Weeks Ago 1993 Efini Model
Just Recently Started Having 2 Problems Can Any 1 Help?

1. The Clutch Seems To Stick Once Depressed Only In 1st & 2nd Gear

2. I Have A Sort Off Dump Valve Sound After Lifting Off The Gas It's Like A Long psssss if u know what i mean

First off try searching before posting.


With that said you may have a failing slave cylinder, or pressure plate.
And I would guess you are hearing a blow off valve. If the FD is stock the previuos owner may have vented them to outside the air box. If not stock you will see a BOV.

there is no bov installed.

but it does sound very similar to it. this problem has only started happening in the last 300miles, its a very low millage car, roughly 20000miles.

the car comes with a BOV(maybe two?) stock. from the factory it vents in to the intake box, however most people either a: vent it to the atmosphere or b: when you get an aftermarket intake, you can hear it venting.

Have you ever owned a turbocharged car before?

If it just started happening, it could be that the recirculation hose popped off.

will have a look under the hood 2moz, been to busy @ work.
any other ideas on the clutch :S

i have to drive with 1 shoe off so i use my toes to lift it back up after selecting 1st or 2nd :wallbash:

My guess is your clutch problem is either a slave cyl or a clutch master cyl.

Honestly this sounds like it has real potential for a bad accident.

I humbly suggest you take this to the nearest transmission shop of good repute and have them diagnose it. This issue is not a rotary-specific thing so you stand a very good chance of getting it serviced properly and efficiently.

If this is not a daily driven car, then I'd suggest leaving it parked until the problem is pinpointed and fixed. Offhand I agree with the others and would continue researching the clutch master cylinder and hydraulics. I dunno but maybe the brake booster check valve might play a role?

The PSSSH sound could be the stock blowoff valves, if they happen to be disconnected from the air intake. They are golf-ball sized plastic valves (one black, one brown, labeled charge relief valve and air bypass valve) right behind the airbox. If so, it's not much to worry about although you would be wise to connect them back to the air intake so they don't hiccup dirty air back in, which is one reason that I have left mine as stock.

But then again, if your blow off valves are plumbed normally you might be hearing an intake leak.

like others said... clutch problem IS clutch master and/or clutch slave cylinder broke

find out how the stock blowoff valves look like, then u can check if ur actually missing anything. cuz pssssssstt after u left off gas sounds perfectly normal for turbo car... i don't see why the previous owner would even touch it unless he's upgrading it

as for 93VR Touring ~ i aint owned a turbo charged car previously, the car i had was a Citroen Saxo VTR :P

Clutch hydraulic problems are not very invasive. So there's not a lot of 'while you're in there' to speak of.

If the mechanic needs to remove the tranny, I'd suggest the clutch fork, and maybe the clutch if it's showing wear.
