help. Map sensor??

So the problem with my car is that the map sensor vacuum hose from the bottom of the sensor is broken. I believe it happened where the check valve was??? So what I have right now is the sensor with a 1" vacuum hose underneath it. What do I need to make my car run normal again? Where does the hose connect to? Must I get a check valve from mazda or somewhere else? Any info will help thanks!

ok, trying to understand. are you saying that the rest of the hose with the check valve has disappeared, and the only thing you have left that you can see is the map sensor? If so, most likely the rest of the hose with the check valve has fallen down into the dark recesses below the throttle body. That end of the hose is connected to a nipple on the intake manifold below the double throttle actuator area (inboard of the throttle body).

Thats actually not a check valve, its just a filter. If its broken, you could get your car running normal again by just eliminating the filter till you get a new one.

It's not a filter, it's a pulsation chamber. This takes out any pulsing or erratic air movements before they reach the "map sensor". You can get away without it but the car will run a little differently, but it will run. Without the map sensor hose connected to manifold reference, the car will run in "limp mode", ie not good!

You all are hitting it right on the nose. Yes my car is running very shitty in limp mode right now.

Sidestick: You are correct, somehow the rest of the hose disappeared!? Do you have a picture as to where it connects? Is it a hard to reach place?

RTS3GEN: Oh its a pulsating chamber?? Should I pick this piece up at mazda?

Thanks for the info guys now i just need to hook a hose up to the manifold refrence point but where the hell is it?!

ttt anyone got a pic?

Sidestick Mar 3, 2002 11:12 PM

Here ya go: http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/manifold.htm

You can see the map sensor on the right side of the picture on the firewall. See that red hose leading to where the throttle plates are? That's it.

Does the hose look broken? I'm guessing the hose slipped off the filter ( RTS3GEN is correct in what this device does, but it does "filter" pulsing or erratic air movements) and the other end is dangling behind the throttle body.

There is aobut a 1" hose from the bottom of the sensor and then it just stops, its not broken it just seems that the rest is missing. The rest must have slipped off somewhere. Thanks for the pic

Dig around below the intake elbow and you should find the loose sensor line. I zip-tied mine on because it kept popping off under boost.

The filter that is coming from the map sensor, does this thing suppose to work like a one way check valve or something???? I check mine and air is coming through both direction....

paw140 Mar 23, 2002 11:57 PM

Its not a one way check valve. Air will flow through it in both directions.

thanks for the reply, I thought it was bad, cause it has the pointing arrow just like the other check valve..
