Help!! Lost 9 psi of boost!
 
Well I installed 2 manual boost controllers last night, as per damian's write-up. They worked great, had em set so I would hit .9 bar and my transistion drop was minimal.

I turned onto a main street off some side street today, and had to get going to get into traffic, and I only hit .3 bar (5psi on my autometer gauge). And its like that in every gear.. 5 psi.. no more.. no less.

I did a visual but everything looked ok.. is there anything specific I could check?

Yeah.. I hooked the wastegate actuators back up and everything is back to how it was before.. and now I'm only seeing 7psi of boost.. and my PFC is set much higher than that.. wtf is going on?

Help? And yes the pills were in the wastegate lines =/ But not when I had the manual boost controllers in.

I tried switching the plugs on the wastegate/prespool actuators.. same thing.. 7psi.

Could anyone help me?

PFC does not have a LIMP mode. BTW - my car's been doing it for the past 6 months. Doesnt want to go over 7psi. Sometimes when its real cold out it'll boost creep, but it hasnt done that in a long while. I've been pretty lazy about fixing it. Could be a bad BOV. Kinda sounds like it on mine.

I think I'm gonna try to test my BOV's tomarrow.. people say they are only good up to 15psi.

checl all you rintake hoses, y pipe, intercooler hoses, intercooler. anything that sees boost pressure could be the problem.

Hey make a home made pvc piping pressure test!

Take a pvc pipe cap (one that fits at the end of you intake piping)
and drill a hole in the end so that you can install an air hose fitting
to the end of it! Once installed silicone the around the hole and on
the treads of the fitting. Once silicone is dry install the tester in
your intake piping and clamp the fitting in place(use silicone couplings).
Once completely secured (will hold pressure), attach the the air hose
and turn the pressure up! You should hear where the leaks are coming from!

It sounds to me that the vaccum lines going into the wastegate actuator have possibly popped off, causing you to run the "default" 7psi that the wastegate spring is set to. Another possibilty could be that the spring somehow malfunctioned. I have had this with cheaper ball/spring setups where the spring dislodges itself, thus allowing the air to just flow through.

I would make a wager that it's probably not your intake plumbing, as your boost would probably taper off towards redline.

I thought it could be the boost controllers so I hooked everything back up to stock using the stock lines with the pills in them.. and it still did the same thing. =/

maybe the bov died from .95 bar???? we can try to cap off the line going to the boc and see if the bov just went bad and it losing boost above 5 psi.. or will that cause the turbos to try to spool backwards from not having a bov?? if we just boost 1nce or 2wice with the bov line capped off i dont think itll hurt the turbos, will it??? i dont think it will cuz its only boosting it a few times without a bov ????????? IDK! HELP! =P

I guess if you boost and let off slowely you might be able to get away with not hurting your turbos as the slow drop it boost wouldnt even move your BOV anyways.

I also tried using a different MBC and then just put the stock lines back on and still cant breach the 7psi barrier. Im waiting to see where this thread goes. Looks like finally someone had the same problem I have. I just havent had time to go after fixin it (too much other shit to worry about like rebuilding my transmission).

Yeah. Well tomarrow I'm gonna cap off the BOV tomarrow and see what happens. Does anyone have any idea what would happen if I capped off the CRV? Probably nothing good. I'm just hoping my BOV died.

Bill,

Pull the hose where the BOV dumps back into the airbox, cap the nipple on the airbox with a plastic bottle cap and a hose clamp (pick a yellow cap because it will make your car faster) then go for a drive. The stock BOV is plenty loud enough to hear while driving if it's not plumbed back into the airbox. If it is working correctly you will hear it leaking up to 0psi at which time it will close and the hissing sound will stop completely. As long as it stops leaking at 0psi and continues to hold until you let off I would say that rules out the BOV. I still think it has to do with the wasegate.

Maybe you could read the rest of the thread were I said I hooked everything back up to stock so the manual boost controllers arent even hooked up anymore...

And Dennis I would do that but I don't even have the stock airbox anymore.. :) I'm running hard intake piping with K&N filters. I think the BOV might be leaking after 5psi because I can hear a lot of rushing air from under the hood. I'm going to check it out today when I get home from school. I don't have to work untill 5 so maybe I can track the leak down or whatever else is causing the problem.

How could I check that my wastegates are working properly?

If you want to test to see if the wastegate is working you have to put pressure on the line running to it. Use the same bike pump you're using to test for leaks. Hell, you might even get it to move in the process of testing for leaks.

Oh ya - and the BOV doesnt have to leak at 0 psi to still be broken. If the spring is weak it will still hold pressure, just not enough. I think mine is doing the same thing - leaking at higher boost levels. The only weird thing is I've swapped it out for my friends CRV and my friends BOV and neither of them solved my problem. The CRV actually made it worse. Im non-sequential too, so this isnt a sequentialy related problem.
