help installing knock sensor
I GOT THE OLD SENSOR OUT
http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/v...am1/knock3.jpg BUT WHEN IM TRYING TO INSTALL THE NEW SENSOR IT KEEPS ON HITTING THIS METAL BRACKET http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/v...eam1/knock.jpg http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/v...am1/knock2.jpg CAN'T GET THE SENSOR TO GO IN STRAIGHT ANY IDEAS? |
get some pliers and bend it just a little bit to fit
|
Damn dude, I'd recommend you look into some nitrile gloves
We remove that bracket on every FD we work on, it's a pita to work around and useless. The plier method should work for ya. |
thanks for the response im going to try it today after work, i tried using gloves but it seems way easier to work on the fd without them you know all those tight fits & i drop less bolts without them :)

Maybe we can get you to stop yelling at people ;) |
I plan on replacing mine soon, is it of any benefit to install it in the rear housing instead of the front?

Can't bend the bracket its too thick! Any other ideas? Can I just cut the wire in half and connect a longer wire to mount the sensor in the other housing?
|
What about removing the bracket?
|
every time something goes right another thing goes wrong, i got the sensor in the pulling the bracket back about half an inch using a wrench & a flat head screw driver, while trying to connect the sensor i saw the wire was too short! i look @ the part #'s for the sensors & there different! fd# 01M16-021 other sensor 11L26-002 so tomorrow i'm gonna go back to the shop i bought it from and see if they have the correct sensor.. thanks for your help guys

that is pretty funny because I went through EXACTLY what you are right now. I had trouble installing the replacement sensor because of that stupid bracket (what is it?, I didn't even bother to check). Mine was tough because the zip tie end was hitting so it wouldn't screw in. Once I got it in, like you, the wire was too short. This was fine because my wire broke from the connector and I was repairing it anyways so I just added length and shielded the wire. I had a lot more headache even after all this when my problem (CEL) didn't go away. Turns out the replacement sensor was bad.
and I need to get a pic of what my old one looked like, lol...didn't have half the stuff that yours has inside it (the old one). |
here's a pic of my old one. Surprisingly it worked for a few years but gave up recently.
