Help Installing correctly manual Boost Control on 99 turbos
 

Hi, first off I have read many threads on how to do this but most are from the old turbos with the pills in the hose and I have a 2002 FD3S with the newer turbos that didnt came with pills on hoses, also most of this threads are really old and some never came with a definitive solution on how to correctly mount the boost controllers...

So for a more modern thread I want to ask how to install the boost controller for my turbos, my car is stock except for a intake and a catback, right now I have 2 Hallman boost controller installed, 1 in the wastegate actuator and the other in the precontrol actuator ( see pic. below on how I install them) I'm not sure if they are installed correctly, I'm almost sure it's not. I'm getting 12-6-12 psi with the precontrol actuator max out, I was half the way with the precontrol and was already at 6...

The 99 turbos have "pills" in the inlet instead of the hose. You will need to drill them out to achieve lower boost. I would drill the wastegate pill first, then try to get the right boost before messing with the prespool line.

Ok thanks I will check that, I'm installing the boost controllers because I feel the car really slow, I dyno just 160whp and we check everything, we replace all the hoses of th rast nest with new ones and everything is fine and boosting fine. My mechanic recommended to install the boost controllers, so we did and now it feels alot better but I still feel it slow compared to another stock fd especially before the second turbo kicks in (below 4,500 RPM)

There's something very wrong with your car if you're only making 160whp. Like wastegate actuator arm popped off or giant boost leak wrong if its not a tired engine.

Well the car starts fine without hessistation, no smoke coming from the exhaust no weird feeling or sound, I have a boost gauge and is boosting with the now installed boost controllers 12-6-12. When I dyno 160wph I didnt have the boost controllers and just by looking at the cluster boost gauge it was hitting 12psi but it feels reaaaaaaaally slow below 5,000 RPM, after the boost controllers it feels alot better but still didnt feel like a 280hp car and havent install the boost controller conrrectly.

I would remove the boost controller from the prespool line. Just re-connect it with the original hose. This should help your transition.

I will try all that when I get back from my vacations, but mainly I'm looking for someone with a 99+ turbo that have succesfully installed the boost controllers and chime in for a 100% correct way to install them.

I have 99 turbos, and have experience with manual boost controllers. But dont take my word for it.......

What do you actually want the boost controllers for? I have a 99 spec RS with those turbos and the stock boost pattern is about 11 PSI - 10 PSI - 11 PSI, and sometimes on the transition you would have a brief spike to around 12 PSI before the quick dip to 10 PSI and back to 11 PSI.

With an intake and cat-back of course you would expect an increase in boost but I wouldn't be worried about it rising to 12 PSI, there is enough fuel in the stock map on the later ECUs to deal with that - but I wouldn't put another mod on the car without tuning it with an Apexi PFC.

Now, the dip to 6 PSI isn't normal and suggests an issue in your rats nest. Maybe your pre-control actuator is tired/responding slowly.

But to be honest, you shouldn't ever need to install boost controllers on twins. The stock ECU with your mods should be enough and an Apexi PFC is powerful enough to control boost just fine on the twins even when running much higher boost than standard.
