help!! front eccentric shaft bolt loose

I just put a rebuilt motor in and ran it about 6hrs total over a couple days, and it started boging in gear. hear I looked and the main pully was out a bit(too far for the sensors to read, causing the boging) I pushed it in and felt the bolt, and I can hand tighten it!! My question is: is this enough play that my thrust bearings could have dropped, or can I just push it in and tighten the bolt with no worries? Is there any way to check besides removing the front cover?

Wow. I have to ask, who 'built' the engine?

Do not run the car, you absolutely have to make sure that the thrust bearing didn't fall down. Worst case you can tow it to my shop in central NJ.

Thanks for the quick response Goodfella.
I bought the motor a couple of years ago from a guy in Chicago, it's a street port rebuild by RX7 store.
And I'm guessing to absolutely make sure, your saying the front cover must be pulled?
I'm pretty close to Dave at Speed1, maybe I'll shoot him a call.

I would definately pull the front cover to make sure.

No you don't have to remove the front cover. The FSM gives you a dimension to measure to determine if things are right or not. Go read the ENGINE seciton of the FSM. Remove cover my ass. BS

Lol i guess that would work too basically hand tighten the bolt, then take it out and measure the distance between the eccentric shaft and pully boss. Fsm says 2.44mm max.

That still might not be the best of indicators, as with the car running, clutching in & out with the bearing down usually will compress/destroy the bearing and could minimize the depth reading.

Thanks for all the help. Not sure which way I'll go yet.

Tightening down that bolt without the engine being vertical would give me nightmares.
