Help on engine teardown, PLEASE.

I was wondering if it is ok to use a puller to remove the rear counterbalance weight with the flywheel already removed (MT), or should I put the flywheel back on and then pull it? Figured better safe than sorry.

Mazdatrix makes a special puller for it for pretty cheap or you could try adapting a auto parts puller to work.

I ghetto rigged something to put between it and the rear iron and pryed it off. Not the best solution but i didnt need to use the counterweight again.

I guess I will try this

I reemed out the slots in a puller I already had to fit the proper size metric bolts through the slots. I am going to put the flywheel back on w/4 bolts just to give the puller more square inches of surface area to pull against.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Yes, you can use a puller on just the counterweight.
