HELP! could be dangerous problem!

Ok sometimes its happend 3 times so far in a 2 week span, for some reason whne im driving when i hit the brake it shuts-off the car, and i the brakes get hard to push so they dont work as good so i have to turn on the car while coming to a stop. Now it can be dangerous because if it doesnt stop the car fast enough i might flow into someones back end.

What od you guys think it is? i mean like its not a violent stall at all, i just hit the breaks coming to a stop and it just shuts off the car, my mods are trust catback, and powerfc.

It seems as though my brakes affect the idle too. When i hit the breaks the idle goes down a little, and when i pump the breaks at a stop the idle goes up. Sometimes while coming to a stop and i hit the breaks i feel it pulsing and making the idle go up and down.

I look at my vaccum when im stopped on my boost gauge and its at - 14-16 vacuum. It doenst move around when im stopped.

Please help

thanks,

Phat Nguyen

I'm not sure about this but you may take a look anyway, the Brake Vacuum Hose from the UIM to the pipe in the firewall,
that hose has a one way/check valve, which may be damaged or bad meaning it's either stock open or is almoast closed and causes you vacuum problems and bad idle when brake pedal is depressed.

Alright i checked the hose form the uim to that metal pipe thats on the firewall(is that what im looking for) its on their pretty good. but how do i check the valve.

Take off the hose from the UIM and the firewall pipe and blow through it, you should only be able to blow in direction of the brake cylinder not backwards.

A simple test to see if the hose is okay is to blow in one end and see if air passes through, then blow on the other end and see that air does not go through. If it passes air both ways or blocks air both ways something is wrong with the valve.

it could be a grounding problem, does your engine cut out if you use headlights or other eletrical stuff?

PhatManBUD 02-09-04 06:01 PM

no but electrical stuff does change the idle, and my power fc says the voltage is like 11.5-13.5 depending on what is turned on. Should i buy a grounding kit and change my alternator?

You can get a grounding kit, that's a good idea anyway, but to change the altenator is not nessesary unless is not working at all.
