Help, car is crazy, I've search and now ready to just give up

ok, heres my prob, ive tried searching and nothing i can find has help, maybe posting this will, who knows I'm ready to throw in the towel.

My car used to be find, until I decided to do all my modification at once, which hopefully is listed. anyways now my car has a hard time starting, and when it does start it idles for about 5-10 secs and dies, sometimes when I press on a little gas and hold at 2000 rpm or so it will idle longer. I have set my FPR at around 30 psi-35, but dont know what it is at idle for I cant get to the engine fast enough to look or car dies before I even get up. Anyways before all this my wiring was somehow got messed up from the tranny conversion and that all got solved. so if ur wonderin about it, I dont think its the prob.

Now, for the weird part. The car has a hell of an easier time to start up when the stock auto ECU is hooked up, but when PFC is hooked up it just has the hardest time ever, but the car does start now and then. The PFC was programmed by Jason to the cars spec, but I dont have a commander to check the specs of PFC. and on top of all this, with the PFC the car will back fire now and then when trying to start it.
There is good gas, and plugs have been changed out too, in case ur wonderin.

I did compression test and its all good too.
Motor has about 100 miles on it before conversion.

This all might end up to be something stupid, but for now I'm stuck and need help.

Your responses will be greatly appreciated:(

Have you ever had the car running well with the Power FC? If it has never worked well for you, I would call the person who tuned your PFC and ask them to fix it. It sounds like your car isn't tuned properly.

Wrong, read he said it ran fine before.. somthing else is messed up.. Bad fuel filter, crossed fuel lines, somthing..

Also, bump your fpr to 40lbs after you replace you fuel filter.. See how that works for you. I run my at 45lbs..

Hey man, I don't mean to step on anybody's toes here, but he did not clearly specify in the first three posts that his car was ever running fine AFTER installing the PFC. If this is common knowledge from some other thread I missed, please forgive me I'm new to these boards.

To me, the phrase "all modifications at once" would suggest all modifications, including the PFC, at once. This would make me think that there might be a problem with the settings of the PFC. Again, I haven't got anything personal against this Jason guy (don't even know who he is), but my first guess would be that the engine management is the place to look, if the car works better with the stock ECU than with the PFC. Maybe Jason received misinformation about how the car was going to be set up, that would leave the car in an improper state of tune, although it wouldn't be Jason's fault.

yea has it run on the pfc?

manatecu 02-18-04 11:22 AM

Sounds like a fuel problem. Move the Fuel Pressure up to 43. The cells at idle may not be tuned exactly correct, you need a commander for fine tune them. Make sure the Pressure regulator screw is tight, if it loose the pressure will wonder around.

You need to get someone with a datalogit setup to look at it. You would be amazed how just a few changes can totally change the car - that is the beauty of the pfc. In my opinion there is no way to accurately pre-tune an ecu. Only way to do it is to go rich enough for all possible variables (otherwise you are buying someone an engine) and that is not how you tune a car.

What part of Utah you in? Anywhere near Park City? If so you can fly me out there and I'll take a look at it (when the lifts close that is). :)

Shawn

BTW I will be sending you my optometrist bill soon. Maybe next time you will be careful when you post those pics of your engine bay - those can hurt someone. :)

have someone else crank the car while you look at the FPR.

Agreed. Also check voltage to the injectors while cranking.. Or use a noid. Thats advice I got here that saved me lots of headache. :D
