HELP!!!...Anyone else had this problem?...
HEEELP!....I am trying to install my Bonez downpipe and it seems that the top left thread on my exhaust housing, where studs used to be, is stripped and I can't get a bolt in there. It won't even start to thread. Any suggestions?....Has anyone else had this problem?....Same thread was stripped on my previous twins' housing too. I need to drop this motor in ASAP!...PLEEASE HELP!....Thanks...Ben

I need to get this downpipe on!....Should I tap the thread - make it bigger?....Help!

I don't know if this is a good idea but why not drill the stripped hold down so that you can slide the bolt through to the DP and just screw it in there and tighten like normal. From how I'm looking at it you would still have the tightness needed to secure the seal and have no exhaust leaks but maybe I'm wrong?

There is no room on the back side of the housing, otherwise i would put a bolt through and fasten it with a nut on the backside....I'm using 8.8 bolts from Ace, and maybe the threads are finer.....Do I need to get some factory studs, are they a specific thread??....

10mm 1.5

The other 3 identical bolts that I'm using work in the other three threads....
|
if the bolt does not go in re-thread it with to factory spec dont thread it bigger the thread on the manifold might only be dameged at the begining only.
|
Thanks for the insight guys, I think I'm gonna try to re-thread the maifold to factory spec, but I will post later tonight and let you know the outcome......Peeeace

Yep, get an M10x1.5 tap and clean out the threads.
|
I tried tapping it and it wouldn't even start. I even tried hitting it with a mallet and tryin to get it to thread, NO LUCK.......I don't know what else to do....HEEELP!

Find a rotary shop that can "helicoil". If I remember the explenation right. They would drill out the bad thread and inster a new one which would be even stronger. Just take it there with the three studs and have a brand new stud and nut for the replacement.
|
There is a link to Helicoil info in the FAQ now. If the tap won't start (AND HAMMERING A TAP IS WAY WRONG!!!!), then consider drilling and retapping for a Helicoil.

You should be able to use a stud in the top two holes without any trouble. Is it possible to put one of the factory studs back into that hole or are the threads stripped out so bad the stud won't even work ?
|
Thanks!!...I'm out to get a helicoil kit (Not sure what thread pitch, but..) ....I'm gonna use replacement OEM studs to mount the downpipe.
|
Shazzzzzamm!...The helicoil worked like a champ! All i did was drill the exhaust housing with a 13/32 bit, tap the new thread, and put in the helicoil with a lil loc-tite. Thanks everyone for the help!!!!
