Help! about to rip my hair out! Hood latch problem.
 

Ok so the engine blew and im sure its a apex seal. Now i try to pop the hood so i can check if its anything else. To my suprise there is no tension in the hood release cable. GREAT... How are you supossed to go about poping the hood release with a broken cable? is there a easy way of doing this? or should i just sawzaw the hood latch off? lol jesus the problems are just snowballing!@:wallbash:

So your engine popped and your positive its an apex seal. When was the last time you looked into your engine bay? I've actually manually opened the hood before by very carefully using a thin knife to release the latch.

Thanks for the link I tried a search but came up with nothing. I will try that soon.

Other note Im sure it is a apex seal. I want to compresion test it but the hood problem i have to get by first. I had a boost spike and then it quit running. Hence more than likely apex seal, Or the spring behind it decided to take a vaction and flatten out. who knows im going ls1 tho now.

There used to be a post that explained how to do this, but I couldn't find it. The guy pulled the drivers side - side marker light and used a coat hanger I believe.

jack up the left side
take off the wheel
the wheel wheel well liner

now get a nice view and use whatever tools you have to release it

Alright thanks guys. Will have the car towed to my house monday and then the project begins. wooo hoo Kinda excited to get the hood open and get my hands dirty.

hmm never thought of that way.. kinda a hassle but would work pending your set up (smic might block the way)

Got it opened up today. thanks guys. Lol and too ad to the list of problems, My 1 1/2 ton floor jack has now decided to blow a seal and leak hydrolic fluid everywhere =P great! blow engine f'd hood release and now a worthless jack.

Welkl i have the scoot hood so luckly it didnt line up even at the bottom of the bonnet. So there was a bit of room to work with, made a coat hanger straight as possible with a small 90 L bend at the first quarter inch. If you put it where the release cable gose into the latch and have the 90 bend facing up, push it about half a inch behind where the latch is and push up. Pull back to the right while keeping pressure on the vertical, It will catch and pop the primary lock. Open the secondary catch with your finger as usual and vola!

I can do this all day now and its kinda scary... I could get into any fd now in 5 seconds flat no questions asked. So on that note I am going to mount a pressure switch on my hood for my alarm now!!!!

This is one of the reasons why I took off the whole latch and cable assembly and now using the aerocatch hood pins with lock, imagine if one day your car is on fire and your ready with an extinguisher and your hood does not open...daym...

guys like i said it is way to easy if you have a after market hood to pop it with a coat hanger.... So this being said yes its nice that there is a last resort to opening it but .... On the other hand think how easy it would be for somone who has the know how (me now after doing it) To open your hood and start stealing all your easy acess bolt on parts. This suprised me, So think about the security of your car. If any of you need to open your hood and are having trouble feel free to pm me and ill give you a call and walk you thru it step by step.
