Help

some white smoke come out from the muffer and bad smell. i think the engine is building coolent

nocomply24 Jul 27, 2006 09:32 PM

give us more to work with then that...

fanloi Jul 27, 2006 10:33 PM

the engine is shaking very hard. i think, the rpm is very unstable. it move around 600-700. and white smoke and bad smell come out. Some backfire sound too. i just put a 1.2 bar coolant cap on the car. But my friend tell me the apex seal is start breaking. is it the coolent cap make it like that

White smoke usually means water vapors. That could be from bad O-rings in the engine or, it could be as simple as condensation that accumulates in wide open exhaust systems.

If it is condensation it should clear up in just a few minutes after start up.

thx, let me try to start up again

fanloi Jul 27, 2006 11:17 PM

it is clear up after for a while. i think i should learn more about rx-7 and rotany. i really do not know anything about it before it is too complicated.

Hopefully it is nothing but normal condensation in the exhaust. The bad smell tend to be the result of not having a cat converter. Is that the case for your car?

For future reference when you ask for help, it is a good practice to provide info on all your modifications and special setups.

If you have a midpipe and a relatively unrestricted catback you can expect both bad smell and white smoke on startups.

yes, it had no cat. my friend just tell me my apex seal is start breaking. i am still thinking about rebuild the enigine or not. it is 5000 dollar again. and i already pay very much for the car already. if i do not rebuild it, proably the car and run half year more but i need to buy a new engine in that time

fanloi Jul 28, 2006 01:44 AM

i have a hks downpip and hks N1 midpip and exhaust. but the car is very hard to start today and the engine shaking very hard

if its coolant burning, doesn't it come out of the exhaust almost immediately.

steam comes out ~2min after starting? right?

axr6 Jul 28, 2006 11:10 AM

It does sound like an apex seal as you describe the hard starting, shaking... if that is the case you really do not have 6 more months to drive as the car with a broken or chipped apex seal looses so much power that it becomes practically undrivable. I had numerous slightly chipped apex seals in my race engines and my street FD (one) and you can barely make it back to your pit area for the lack of power.

If you have enough power where you "think" that you can drive the car for six more months, it is probably not an apex seal breakage.

Take it to a rotary shop and get a compression test. Also have them look for bad coolant seals.

yes it is like that

I'd say that it's a coolant seal failure = rebuild.

The shaking that you get at idle is because you are runing on one rotor. Once all of the coolant that is on the chamber burns off the car idles fine. It's worth checking over though.

If 95% of the newbies had this attitude the forum would be a better place.

good luck with the motor, best to get it towed to a rotary shop.
