Also there's a couple of threads on an idler Pully, since the airpump has been removed, the water pump is getting a tiny bit of belt on the side, and I would bet you can turn it (water pump) with the car off with your hands...
Good luck with your car bro! |
That thing is rough, but it can be fixed. My suggestion is to not do anything to the car before figuring out what class you want to run auto-x in. This will determine what mods you do to the car.

My "Bet" would be "Not" since the air pump makes the belt attach to 60+% of the area of the Water Pump, which is attached to the crank shaft, and would be difficult to turn, that's why you have a starter... with the belt only gripping 20% or less of the water pump it's not hard to make it "slip" by hand... but since overheating and water pumps are for wimps... feel free to experiment on your own car....
i have been experimenting for 4yrs on my car, no overheating issues to report thus far. you shouldnt believe everything u read |

RE: Reading / Believing, I don't that's why I didn't believe you when you said you could turn the water pump with the air pump in place... Cause I have, since I swapped out the belt when I did the Single Turbo Years ago, and found I couldn't before, and could after... but only after I had about 500 Miles on the water pump puly, as the teeth wore off and it lost it's grip... because I did read forum posts, and took it under advisement, and tried it for myself... |

Yeah ! That's it !!! ;)
Anyways, not that big of a deal, as long as you have enough belt on there to make sure it will spin. then everyone's happy. |

excuse me? upping my post count?
I, unlike many internet forum superstars could give two shits about my post count. And YES... GO READ. How you do think everyone else here learned? How do you think I learned what to do with my Single build when knowing nothing about rotarys?... yes, I searched day and night and read every FAQ out there. Every fucking week a new kid shows up asking the SAME questions. It's getting old. It's called the search function. And if you know how to properly use it (as in use "quotations") then you will find EVERYTHING you need. But hey, thanks for coming out! I quoted you saying that these cars don't have a MAF, and said that it had already been covered. But you apparently didn't "read" the whole thread or you would have seen that. Nothing like being redundant to make your day bright. As for the "kids" who show up here every week asking the same questions.....I am not a kid. I'm 30 years old. I know what to ask, and where to ask it. I'm not posting a bunch of individual topics on stuff, I'm using my intro thread to talk about it. If you can't see the maturity in that, I suggest you go play with yourself in the corner and leave my thread alone. And thanks to everyone else who decided to discuss the water pump pulley in here. ;) I will look into that. The AST is already something I've come across on here, VIA THE SEARCH FUNCTION, which is actually bookmarked in my FD folder right under this forum's addy. I think, for the most part, that I am asking normal questions especially concerning the race equipment. So, carry on. Remember, there are two of us building cars here. If you feel that I have attacked you, please slap yourself in the face. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D |

welcome to the club trucker mike, your thread, posts & questions are in know way outta line. D Crosby, no hard feelings on my end, your car looks good in your sig btw > peace |
None taken !
I just try to help, YOU (the reader) have to make a decision based on the input given, and have to warm up to the idea, or decision, because in the end, it's you(the reader) that has to Pay, and Live with it. If someone wants to take the chance of running stock AST, Untuned, No Cats etc.. etc.. (not this particular vehicle) but as an example, and people tell you "Stop" and you continue, that would be your fault. Just as much as purchasing an "Anti Detonation" device (Search) and find out you drive like a grandma and wasted $500 + a trip to the northeast... It's YOUR car, YOUR $$, and YOUR responsibility, get all the advice you can get or buy, and make an informed decision. BTW, your silver FD looks very tastefully put together ! And Good luck with the post starters Rd FD, looks like a labor of love, with the former being the bigger part of that equation. |

But he's going to have a hell of a ride for HPDE and Time Attack events if built properly |
Well, I got the spec sheet for the car.
2000mi on new motor (rebuild) AtkinsRotary.com Rebuild (Kit C) Streetport & polish Rx7store Extreme Fuel System with 1600cc secondary/850cc primary Greddy TypeRS BOV HKS 50mm wastegate HKS Twin Power Power FC w/ Commander HKS Superdragger exhaust Exedy lightened flywheel w/ 6-puck clutch Walbro 255HO 60mm Defi gauges with Defi Link HKS Type-1 turbo timer OBX 64 trim .84 A/R Laptop with PowerFC software Tuned to 1 bar, should make approx 450rwhp according to owner who built the car. Car has never hit boost since rebuild. Found out the intercooler piping hose on the turbo side wasn't even clamped down. So I fixed that tonight. Started stripping the car, beginning with the hatch, until a buddy of mine suggested that he might want the FD in exchange for a mildly built 03 bug-eye WRX. So we will see if I even have the car in a week. I go back on the road in 3 weeks after my hand heals, and I might enjoy a car more that doesn't need work, and also fits me better with my 6'4/240lb build. :D |
remove the OBX turbo and you have a pretty nice setup.
|
I've got a GT45R that came with the car, but needs to be rebuilt.
OBX = ebay = cheap, lame, bad, icky. I know. |
Looks like I'm keeping her.
|
Well, she's up on stands, with the interior gutted and some body panels removed.
