Hello Everyone! New To the Board
 

Hello Everyone! I have been eyeing this board for quite sometime now! I just want to introduce myself! I am 24 yrs old , I am from San Diego, Ca . Just like everyone here I am a car fanatic! I love cars! So far I own 2 import supercars, I am currently working on getting my third generation RX7! I have been through a number of cars since I have gotten my license, around 9 now! My first real car was a Piece of Crap Ford Ranger.. Yeah don't laugh.. but this is when I wasn't into cars yet! My second was a 1992 Acura Integera.. and this is where I got bitten by the bug! next! 1995 Acura Integra GSR , 1990 Honda CRX si , 1990 VW corrado ( supercharged ) piece of crap , another 1996 Acura Integra GSR , and currently still own a 1990 Twin Turbo 300zx , and 1994 Twin Turbo Supra! I would like to ask some questions! Don't worry I won't ask about which is beter supra or rx7? I want to know is How do the engine hold up on the RX7! I have read a few stories about the engine! But since I am a car nut! I won't let this stop me from getting one! if you guys and girl of course have any questions feel free to ask! Oh btw my name is Steve!

The RX-7's engines hold up very well, just have to take precautions like any good car owner would with any good sports car, keep an eye on temp and such. Maintainence. etc.

If you have a 300ZX Twin Turbo, you should know how maintainence can be.

The numbers I hear generally are 120,000 miles per re-build. I can't verify those because I do not own a 3rd gen, but I do know that the stock cooling system is not that great and should be replaced.

thanks PraxRX7.. for the reply! I am currently trying to get rid of my z.. I hate to admit it .. but it just doesn't have any top end power! don't get me wrong.. I would kick my supra ass in cornering! the z got some really good cornering abilitly! but power for power .. the supras got it all! My plan for the RX7 when i get it is to get a upgraded radiator and to the fan mod! How much does it cost for a rebuild? or should i just buy a new engine??

Getting a rebuild and buying a new engine is generally the same, unless you re-build the engine youself, then it is substantially cheaper, but from you not having an RX-7 you might not be up to the task (although If you have re-build a piston engine, a rotary is a cake walk).

If I were you I would just buy a 3rd gen with a blown engine, take it out and sell the engine for parts (or keep it and re-build it as a spare) and then buy a "NEW" engine and slap it in with the upgraded radiator and fan (and possibly FMIC mod...the stockies are pretty small), then you have warantee on the engine should anything go wrong...

Just my opinion.

I think most people here would agree that the Supra piston will outlast the rotary given the same maintenance. Everyone here would also agree that the FD is better looking than the Supra and a lot more rare.

If you decide to purchase an FD, I'm sure many people here will assist you. I and a fellow Minnesotan just helped a person on the west coast evaluate a CYM R1 here in MN. He is shipping it to the west coast.
