hello.

hello everyone. first i wanna introduce myself...my name is glenn and im 19. i love rx-7s even before tftf came out:) well i think i finally want to get one of these beuties...a 3rd gen of course.

ok heres the problem...between college and the everyday baseball practices and games i dont really have time to look around. so i was thinking...would it be a bad idea to get one at a car auction? the kind where u cant test drive it? theres a rotary shop about an hour from here that i could take it to once i got it. what do u guys think about this idea? should i wait or just get one at an auction?

You should never buy an FD without getting it thoroughly checked out first (or look at it yourself and know what you are doing).

I know many of the young'ens will retort, but there is no way a 19 year old college student can afford to legitimately own and maintain these cars. Pick up a cheaper and easier to maintain sports car like a 2nd gen RX-7 or a DSM. You will enjoy college a lot more (won't be broke 24-7) and when you graduate, you can move on to an FD.

EDIT: Just saw your budget. Don't get an FD.

Hey welcome to the forum. FD is a great, fun and fast car but there is a down side. Its realy expensive to maintain the car, and if not maintained it wont run to it full potential. This month I spent $900 because of a oil leak from the oil pan and sterring mechanisim. If I were you I would wait till getting out off college. Im not saying you shouldnt get one, just be ready to dish out some cash.

Unless you have a big piggy bank, fd probably not a good idea right now. mines costing about 5k/ year in maint. and toys

Don't get an FD.

RxSeven1 02-23-04 08:29 PM

if you dont have time to look for the car then you probally wont have time to maintain it. its not a car you jump in turn the key and go. my fd sits at home all week until the weekend when i can go home and play with it.

glennm03 02-23-04 08:29 PM

thats understandable guys and thanks for the heads up. ima take ur advice and just wait till after college. however, till then ima learn as much as i can about them :)

dumbass question but what exactly does fd mean? i know it refers to 3rd gen rx7s tho.
