Height Concerns
I've got a little problem here. I just got a new job that pays good. I can finally afford an FD. However, I've been talking to a lot of people who say that they're not kind to tall drivers. I'm 6'7", and I'm worried that I'm not going to fit into the car of my dreams. =) Anyone else out there as tall as me that could give me some advice? So help me, I'll mod the seat if I have to... ;)

Holy poop face! Your 6'7"? I'm only 5'5" my advice to you is get one with the sunroof and keep it open at all times. :D
|
I'm 5'10" and fit perfect. I don't think that you would fit all that well. Sorry guys but I think he should look into getting a Supra. I drive my friends all the time and it would fit you almost perfect.
Just my opinion |
yea
Buddy of mine is 6'5" and decided against the FD....he bought a NSX!:o
|
I'm 6'0 and people are telling me that my head touches the ceiling and that when my sunroof is open, my hair sticks out of the top.
I think all I need to do is start sitting lower... |

Well hate to break it to u that u arent gonna fit. My boss is about 6'4 and he was BARELY able to drive the car. The seats were all the way back. A Supra would be good for u
|
Yep, I agree. You won't fit. I'm 6 foot, and I have enough head and foot room, but adding 7 more inches either way wouldn't work.
You'll probably have better luck getting into a Supra. |
Sit in one. Best way to answer the question.
I'm 6'4" - 6'5" (don't know exactly...), and decidely not a small person. I fit. My head touches the roof when the seat is in certain positions, but it's not a big deal. A little slouching is a small price to pay to drive the car. But, if I drop the seat all the way back, I've got head clearance no problem. It was difficult to get used to driving with such a relaxed posture, but after a few weeks I got used to it. The biggest problem for me was after had the car converted to manual, my legs were too long to use the clutch pedal properly. I had to actually open the door of the car in order to get my knee into a position where I could hover my foot over the pedal, because my thigh was squeezed between the steering wheel and the door. A smaller diameter Momo wheel solved the problem nicely, and now I have zero height issues with the car. |
I would like to get a Supra, but I can't afford one at the moment... I really was set on getting an FD until I came to this issue. I was thinking about getting a momo steering wheel if I got and FD anyway... I'm thinking that would help, because most of my height is in my legs. I don't need my knees rubbing on the steering wheel. I have long arms, so reaching the steering wheel is not a problem. I don't want to have to get an auto, either. I guess I should find someone who will let me sit in it. Anyone in the Indy area want to help me out on this...?

If I was close enough, I would definitely help you out. ;)
Unfortunately, even with a aftermarket steering wheel, I don't think you are going to make it and be comfortable. I agreee though that you should find one and take a seat in it, but I don't think you're going to make it. |
a bud of mine who is 6'5" has an FD as well, and he fits... but only after taking out the stock seats and bolting a recaro racing seat straight to the floor, no rails... this gave him plenty of clearance, hope this helps.

I'm 6-3 195# and fit in my R1 without trouble, though I have to recline the seat at the track to make room for my helmet. I think the sunroofless R1 (and maybe R2) has significantly more headroom than those Touring models.

Thanks for all your input, guys. I think I'm going to go ahead and give it a shot. I can sacrifice a little comfort to drive such a sweet car... :D
