Heat inside the car coming from the engine HELP!
 

Yeah everytime i drive my car i feel warm heat infront of me coming from the engine did anyone experience this.

Is it coming from the vents?

Push the "vent off" button and see if you can still feel it.

I just want to add to this, is it normal to be feeling the hot air? I also feel it around the transmission area too, (Where normally your knee is, when you're leaning your leg on the center console) Is that a sign of overheating or is that normal when driving?

i did close the vent still the same.

the exhaust runs hot on these cars its the nature of the rotary. so I would say its normal.

I've felt radiant heat coming from the transmission tunnel, but never anywhere else. If my fan is off but the heat dial is turned to hot i'll get heat out of the vents. Turn it to the middle and you'll get lukewarm air, cool for cool, etc.

This is true. If you want no air at all, there is a button on the left side of the center console w/ a picture of a car and an arrow circling the inside. I think it works by taking recirculating the air in the cabinet when the AC/heater fan is on. If the fans are not on, air will simply not pass through the vents.

Don't know if true on the RX-7, but a common problem on the Miata is torn shift lever rubber boots, whose broken seals allow heat to transfer from under the tunnel to the cabin. Makes a huge difference (on that car) when they are replaced.

This is true on FD's too. If the rubber boot tears or cracks you'll be able to feel the heat coming right up through it. Happened to mine.

Try heat wrapping your exhaust system if not done already, especially the mid pipe that runs close to the transmission. I double wrapped mine and the shifter well area does not get as hot as before.

i've felt heat transfer from a FC as well very normal thing with automatics. the FD used to do it.. until i got a radiator.. and the heat stop coming.

take off your shift knob and center consol, remove shift boot and sheck for cracks, replace if need be. then put insulation material in, i use high temp reflective tape, two layers to seal the tunnel/shift boot area so no air can get inside the cabin from that area. Solved my problem, the reason you have that problem is that air is coming in for the transmission tunnel through the shift boot area, seal it and you will no longer get hot air.

where can these shift boots be sourced? i have a 2jz in my car and need a shift boot asap!!!

The car was about 100 times quieter inside and it didnt have all the heat flowing up from the engine. So yeah, I'd say its worth the 50 bucks.

Bringing this thread back to life so people do not have high expectations. Yes there is a slight improvement as a result of all the mods to avoid heat entering inside the car but don't expect it to be gone totally.

I have covered transmission tunnel with a thick heat insulation material, I wrapped the downpipe and the midpipe with heatwrap, bought a new shift boot and changed the transmission oil with a new one. As a result of all this there is slightly less heat inside the cabin or it takes longer for inside the cabin to heat up but it is still there and still uncomfortable at times. My aircon is not working at the moment so it'll probably be better with working aircon :)
