hey everyone. I'm bringing my FD from Japan and will be living in CA central valley near Fresno area. It is Hot here. its only June and we have already seen 115f I know it is no where near the breazy temps of Phoenix but hey it is still pretty hot. my car is slightly modified. 99spec turbos, vac lines, full exhaust, trust smic, sard fpr, fpd delete, and tuned on power fc. I am already ordering a Koyo rad. does anyone have any other recommendations? has anyone used the Evans High Performance Waterless Coolant?

Get better oil coolers. Taller ones to be exact. Switch to a vmount set up. Using a "better" coolant should help a little. Get a power fc or some means to control the fans and have them come on sooner. Proper ducting will help as well. A vented hood. Most importantly, just don't drive it when it's hell and a half outside.

Search using terms like "evans" in this section, I know there are threads discussing both sides.
*Use as much distilled water to coolant as you can, but IMO not less than ~20% coolant to control corrosion and lube the pump.
*S5 FC fan thermoswitch is PnP and lowers the threshold for low-speed fan from 108 C. to 96 C. You can also just use the rear window defogger to kick up one speed.
*Use some upholstery foam to plug all the gaps around the radiator and intercooler duct. Look through the bumper nose and you'll see what I mean.

I have evans in mine for about 4 years now since my engine rebuild, live in fl. I am a believer. I used to have fmic when one night the temp went up to 125-135 Celsius. If i had any other coolant i think i would had been nervous about it. The thing about it is that it wont evaporate like water based coolant so you water seals gets a breake. Now that i have a sort of vmic the highest temp jas neen 85 Celsius and tje fans kick in. Get it, is worth it.

Thanks guys. Since my car is from japan it is an R1 from what I can tell all the FD's except the autos came with 2 oil coolers in japan. I plan on getting a VMIC but it will have to wait a little while. also the FC fan thermoswitch and I want to give EVans a try. I am shorting the fan relay so it comes on higher from the start and I have the A/C unplugged and run both fans when I'm pushing hard. I will be tracking the car so I don't have much control over the outside temp when I'm driving the car. I didn't have any trouble around 90f when I was in japan its just that it hits over 115 out here sometimes. I will look into upgrading my oil coolers to taller ones. I want to build ducts for them too. I have a vented hood it is kinda 1 off and a 99 spec front bumper. I am running a power fc and I I didn't know that I could control the fans with it is that a fact?

Keep in mind that switching to Evans requires a specific procedure to purge your system first before you can fill up with it.

Also, lose that AST.

Power FC can control when the fans switch on, but you will need a Datalogit to access it to change it. Well worth it, IMHO, a lot of guys set it to something like 85C.

Look here on pages 11 and 12 (Item 5) for how to change the fan turn-on for when you are able to access it with Datalogit.

I have the gear to remove the AST. I am currently using a nice aluminum one from famspeed.
but I picked up a nice filler neck delete I just need to weld a flange on it to fit. I never took a look to see what the benefits are has it worked well for you?
also while purging would your flush with some evans before filling it up?

It has helped me here in Houston.

I was tempted to try Evans but never saw a solid consensus on the forum that was in favor of it. In the end, I just went with what the old timers did, which was the old fashioned stuff. You'd have to look up the correct flush procedure, I only remember it being slightly complicated.

I deleted my AST and replaced it with a Topgear Stockport filler neck. I haven't noticed any difference since deleting it. I made sure to burp the system fully.

If you have a aluminum AST then that should be fine. I only saw in your pics a stock AST, which can fail with age.

so how about oil recommendations in these hot summer nights? I was running 5w-40 and 5w-50 oil that was either mobile 1 or from a pro shop called KTS out in japan.

Try try try to make the v-mount a top priority and number one on your list. This modification will outperform any other modification you do to make your car run "cooler" and constant water temperature. If I were you, I would not buy anything else but this.

Sitting in traffic in 90 degrees, I don't see my Power FC raise above 88c. Of course I have other modifications to ensure and supply the motor with fresh cooler liquids as much as possible like dual oil coolers, 20-50 idemitsu oil, a radiator fluid similar to Evans, and a v-mount.

But the v-mount is the drastic change you are searching for
