Headroom....
I've read all the posts about fitting into a FD if you are tall, but there seems to be some debate on weather or not a sunroof is a good thing for us tall people.
Some people say to get one and open it slightly for use with a helmet...makes sense, but others say that the sunroof will make less room closed. Closed, will the addition of the factory sunroof lessen headroom? |
with the sunroof closed there is less headroom....that is why if you look at 6 point rollcages they typically say "can not be used with sunroof" or something along those lines

no, you do NOT want to be sticking your head out of any sunroof, because if you flip the car then the first thing hitting will be your noggin.
same reason for convertibles with a rollbar, they use a broomstick to check your helmet is below the line between the rollbar and the top of the windshield. |
The sunroof, when it's closed, decreases headroom by 1.2 inches. That's a significant amount in such a low car.

For a tall driver opening the sunroof won't help - the highest pont on your head is BEHIND the Sunroof opening. at 5'-10" My helmet hits just behind the opening unless I lay the seat back an extra couple clicks. I think the real solution to the Headroom issue is to extend the wheel so you can sit slightly reclined and still reach the wheel comfortably. |
open sunroof when racing? are you try to kill yourself?

I am 6'2" and was amazed by how big of a difference the sunroof made. When I am in my car (w/sunroof) I can barely slide my hand over my head. I recently drove my friends car (w/o sunroof) and could easily slide my hand between my head and the roof. I also think the exterior of the car looks better w/o the sunroof. The double-bubble effect is much more prevelant.
