headlight motor rebuild..
Well my DS headlight motor is dead. Got it out and now wondering if it would be best to have it rebuilt. A new one is like $250 but I think having my existing one rebuilt may be significantly cheaper. Has anyone out there done this? Who do you recommend to do this? Any help to suggestions would be appreciated.

Most of the time it is not a bad motor. The contract plate gets very corroded and will not allow the motor to operate.
I posted a how to oon how to clean it up and grease it. Does not take much time at all to do. Good luck, Vince |
thanks Vince but I already suspected that and did the clean up. The motor is definitely kaput..... so if anyone out there has any experience with doing this lmk

The only advice i can offer is to completely disassemble the motor. On one of my FC the grease in the drive/ worm gear portion had hardened to the point it couldn't turn. Or the shaft may be slightly rusted. It's possible you can disassemble and clean it to fix it. The motors are pretty simple compared to some other parts of the car.
Good luck, Vince |
My passenger side doesn't work either. I was planning on taking it out and cleaning the contact plates to see if that would work. If not, I was going to try swapping the Miata headlight motors according to this post: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generati...ts-fd-1098936/

Not sure how common this is, but here was my fix (less than $2) for a bad internal relay:

Worse comes to worst a good used motor shouldn't be hard to find from someone who removed the pop ups.
