sure, i can spend time figuring out how to design a (fill in the blank) for my fd but when it comes time to drop it off the winter jackstands i always remember that i didn't figure out what the %$&*# is wrong w my headlight... at various times when it feels like it, it cycles up and down 5 or whatever X.

i know there is a stop adjustment and a motor but beyond that i really don't know what's going on.

the forum is one awesome knowledge resource and surely my fd can't be the only mis-behaver... or maybe someone out there just knows that part of the car really well...

so who wants to be a hero and solve my problem?

it only misbehaves when being turned on or off. never when just driving down the road if that helps...

I agree...that was my first thought. Stock alarm POS!

The horn would probably sound too if that were the case. I suspect it has to do with wiring or debris in the track of one of the headlight motors, possibly.

Mine does the same thing, but the horn would also honk. I've removed my horn relay so it won't go off in the middle of the night randomly. I really wish I had it sometimes though.

If you have a low or defective battery the stock alarm will, or should i say, can go crazy on you. Try checking the battery out at sears or autozone etc. and see if the battery is still good. If its just low then recharge it and see if it happens again.

It could also be a short in the wiring around the steering column. Mine pop up briefly once in a while when I hit the turn signals quickly...

don't you hate those things... when you get something in your eye and it keeps blinking involuntarily (doubt that is a word)

My guess is wiring too, but who knows. Maybe the switch in the dash cowl is acting up.

good idea. especially since it is the only way to capture the space below the light so you can actually get cold air into the motor. thanks Kevin wyum (that's w a T) for the concept. kevin has the best cold air setup ever engineered for the fd. all the rest of the stuff is campin out.

same thing was happening to mine, until i unplugged the battery then replaced it and had the existing alarm removed.

I just picked up my FD yesterday and it does the same thing. Only when I turn on the healights, the left one pops up like normal, and the right one just has a hayday popping up and down until I hit the headlight button.

I had that happened to my old 91 mr2. Later I found out that the alarm was going koo koo, and as soon as I replace the alarm unit, everything went normal again

another qualification here... it is always one headlight... never both. and no hron or flashing lights to indicate an alarm.

bindeezel, you fixed your situation. was it one or both headlights cycling up and down? horn?, flashing lights?

I have a stock FD with the stock security system. Evry once in a while my driver side light will go up and down about 5-7 times when I turn it on and sometimes when I turn it off , pass light works normal. My guess is theres a sensor or switch that tells the light when its fully up or down and it must have a dirty contact or something. Anyone ever open up one of the light motors to see how it works>?

Maybe a bad (or about to die) headlight retractor relay?? Does the FD even have one?? Sorry, just brain storming.

I had the same problem with a probe GT. It was the head light relay. The damn thing would just start blinking while I was driving...kind of funny at first, untill it started happening all the time.

Hrm , do they have seperate relays for each light?

when my headlights were going nuts it was both headlights and the fix was a relay on the driver's side. it is a square black box enclosed in rubber and has 2 or 3 prongs. had to replace it.
