have you noticed lost of steering response from wider tires in the front
curious if those who have gone from the stock wheels/tires to wider wheels/tires in the front have noticed a lost of responsiveness.
thanks. |
A bigger, heavier wheel/tire combination will be less "nimble". More rubber and wheel will require more effort to turn. That's the tradeoff to get more traction.

I don't understand it either, but my steering is more loose now that I put my Advan/Toyo's on over stock wheels with cheap Kuhmos. |
Tread flex can do that. If you have a bald tire, there is a solid block of rubber on the road. A new tire has grooves where no rubber is on the road. The grooves allow the tread to flex. In addition, you actually have less rubber on the road with new tires..... compared to bald ones.

I'm not really complaining, I like it, it just blows my mind  |
My new wheels (Enkei RP-01) are slightly heavier and wider than stock -- fronts are now 43 lbs vs stock 38 lbs. The steering is heavier but not less responsive at all, in fact it feels just as communicative as before. The heavier wheels do clomp over bumps a bit more than the stockers.

Maybe the Kumhos were softer, stickier rubber than the Toyo's

you think the Kumhos were softer, stickier rubber than the Toyo's? ;)

Originally posted by AMRAAM4 OK, but guess what adam....the Kuhmos had less than 2000 miles on them :p: I bought cheapo tires for the car after I purchased it because I just needed something to get by till I got aftermarket wheels. wider tires
When I put on my 17x8 Borbets, I mated them to Yokohama es100's 235/40's. I definately noticed that the tires would follow ruts in the roads much more than the stock tires. I never aligned them , so I do not know if that would be a factor.
