If they are the original lines or you do not know when they were last chand\ged, I would change them to be safe

paw140 08-16-03 11:16 PM

I don't understand your question. You say they are original lines... so they are about 10 years old. Should they be changed? Absolutely!

About the leak, I don't know how we are supposed to tell you where it is coming from. If it's from the vicinity of the tb coolant lines, than it's probably leaking from one of the tb coolant lines.

yup... i second that... change is good... :D

while we are on this subject, would it matter on what kind of hose we use? can i just replace with a similar hose like a fuel line instead of radiator hose line??

mazda/feed 08-17-03 12:14 AM

hey thanks so much paw140 i just thought that i should get a second opin, what about silcone hoses

Hyperite 08-17-03 12:35 AM

Fuel line hose is often not rated to the temperatures of coolant....it basically turns to mush and can make a smooth kink stop the flow. That ain't good!

93BlackFD 08-17-03 03:12 AM

umm, run a line from the waterpump housing to the rear plate, it works great :D

mazda/feed 08-17-03 07:59 PM

can you guys get pics for me if you have dont these things lol thanks

pomanferrari 08-18-03 07:04 AM

I bypassed the TB completely using Hose
Techniques reinforced coolant line 3/8 inch diameter Super Red silicone line. Bypassed meaning where the coolant line comes out of the block to the TB, I connect this coolant line where the TB connects back to the block. It might affect cold weather operation though but I'm not too worried.

i got mines changed out after the 2nd time cutting the line on the tb side due to leaks. the hose was just getting too short so i had to replace.

XSTransAm 08-18-03 02:45 PM

use aeroquip stainless steel line... its pricey but i bet ill never have another line burst :P.. btw mine was leaking before the replacement as well... turned out it was the line under the smog pump

mazda/feed 08-18-03 03:12 PM

well i got my hoses from malloy mazda in woodbridge VA ask for a guy names ray and tell him that eric sent you he is great, allways beat anyones price but ill put them in tonight and we will see what happends

DaedelGT 08-18-03 03:16 PM

Ray knows alot of us pretty well. I've only ordered from him 5 times now :)

BoOsTin FD 08-18-03 06:56 PM

can i see a pic of those hoses? Or can someone tell me where exactly are they located and how hard would it be to change them?

Thanks

robrobinette's site has a howto on the throttlebody coolant bypass... Has pics and all:

http://robrobinette.com/throttle_body_coolant.htm

Edit: I did this mod and it also disables the accelerated warmup sequence. I haven't noticed any ill effects here in OK.

ok guys i put on the hoses today and everything seems to be working fine so whoooo hooooo but i did drive it moderately, just that when i gunned it thats when the leak would happend ill take it out in the am and test it so wish me luck, but i changed the L shaped coolant line that goes to the bottom of the TB, the hose was so loose i could pull it off with out any pressure, but when i got the new one shooooooottttttt it was hard as hell to get on meanning that it was a good fit, but yea i saw ray today all of you who dontknow him should really get to know him he will take care of you
