Has anyone replaced their charge relief valve with BOV?

.... or have it vent to the atmosphere?

Does it make anyone noise?

sszablya 09-20-02 12:19 PM

Just doing an Atmosphere veny will make noise. It's kinda fun. I'll be doing it permanently to my car this weekend.

BATMAN 09-20-02 12:25 PM

i heard it makes noise until the 2nd turbo kicks in.

is that true?

if so is it loud nad/or does the sound vary with the amount of throttle ur giving it?

jpandes 09-20-02 03:10 PM

I have both the BOV and CRV venting to the atmosphere. It is pretty loud(I like it, though). Also Non-sequential.

BATMAN 09-20-02 03:14 PM

which one is louder and do they come on at different times?

i think sequential and non-sequential are different.

Vent it and it will be louder but sounds good. But can be annoying on a long dive sometimes especially on SEQ.

When venting either one does it need filtering, or can it just be disconnected from the airbox?

BATMAN 09-20-02 04:16 PM

it's disconnected from the airbox and it's positive air pressure, so there is no need to have an air filter element.....

CYM TKT 09-20-02 04:19 PM

just vent it. BOV's are meant to blow out air not suck it in like an intake. some people put a little filter on it because sometimes they spit out a little oil.

BATMAN 09-20-02 04:20 PM

spit oil = turbos going bad?????

Dont_Be_A_Rikki 09-20-02 05:48 PM

Yes oil will come thru it but, alot of oil is bad. Little Normal, Alot BAD.

just cap the spots on the stock airbox and the BOV & CRV will be fine. THEY JUST BLOW OUT......................

No need for filtering.

only if it's a lot like Rikki said.

Tri-Point puts little filters on them when they install their colder than hot air box. My friend thinks it's cause it sucks air but I think they do it to quiet down blow off noises. I don't hear his BOV at all.

They are the same exact part (the CRV and the BOV, they are both BOVs), in anycase, i vent mines to atmosphere and my friends say that when I blowoff at about 5-7psi, they can hear it about 10 cars back with the windows down and about 5 cars back with their windows up (I kinda question this since it sounds pretty soft from the inside). I'm running non-seq with only 1 stock bov right now with slight modificatins to the stock bov :)

BTW: My stock BOV is the loudest I have heard with the exception for a friend with a MKIV Supra which is running about 28-30+psi with a old style greddy/hks bov (I forget which one), that thing is freakishly loud and sounds like a lazer gun.

When you are at idle, the CRV is open (there's vacuum at the little hose) and you are pulling vacuum at the manifold. Seems to me you are sucking air back through the CRV.

I'm not saying this is right because I haven't checked, but it seems logical...

Am i missing something?
