Hardened E-Shaft
 

Just getting some stuff nitride hardened at work and started thinking about whether getting an e-shaft done would help prolong life and combat flexing/wear in high-boost applications. Without making too many jokes about getting your shaft hardened, does anyone know if people have tried this in the past? Not that I need it for my street-specific FD, but I'm just curious if it has any merit on the track.

I'd assume that any hardening would be goot for all parts. Lengthening would be good too (20B?).

If there's a way to thicken it up, that will provide better rigidity (SP) too.

So, harder, longer and thicker is always good. But you have to make sure that you get proper lube to it too as there will be more friction, and you don't want to rub her....er...cause unnecessary friction.

Seriously, I've never heard (again, no expert) of the e-shaft being bent from stress. Same idea as doing the same to con rods and cranks. If the cost/performance ratio is worth it, do it.

Ive heard of it being bent from HIGH! (like 11k or more) RPM. Due to the rotors going one way and the shaft going the other so i bet you could probably get a higher redline and lengthen the motors life.
