Hard to get into gear?
Has anyone had this problem with a solution?
While idling with clutch in full, and car cold, no problem getting it into first. With car warm, driven for some time, hard as hell to get into first at a standstill. Checked Clutch adjustment and bled the air out. The clutch seems to be fully disengaging cause I have the correct distance to the engagement point from the floor. Changed oil also to Redline 75W90NS. The problem did not change after oil change. Ideas? Clutch is Centerforce dual. |
my car is the opposite, it is hard to get into gear when cold.

Mine does it warm or cold, Skip at KD said it felt like my pilot bearing.

alright you guys,
i had the same problems. i checked my clutch, and my fluids, when i realized it wasn't, i thought it was my syncros or another tranny issue. i was prepaired to bare with it for a little while until i decided to order a short throw shifter. when i went to install it i had to of course take out the stock, when i did i noticed that the stock shifter was broken. the shifter has a plastic piece near the base of where the shift arm reaches the shifter housing. this broken platic piece was interfering with shifting occasionaly. i noticed it on cold starts and while warm. you guys should check your shifters to see if you have the same problem. if so its a super easy fix. good luck to all ian |
Sounds like worn synchros. At a standstill, try shifting into 2nd gear first, *then* 1st gear. By lining up the synchros, you should be able to get it into 1st gear easier this way.

I also replaced the plastic bushing at the bottom of the shifter and added MT-90 and it was cured. 75W90 work the same as MT-90 in the tranny?

the probability is high that it either your pilot bearing or a semi grenaded clutch disc. when you push the clutch pedal in the input shaft stops rotating even though the crank, er eccentric shaft, still spins. the pilot bearing allows this. if the bearings go the input shaft spins and doesn't come to a halt to allow you to change gears. an irregular discface could also drag against the flywheel causing the input shaft to rotate.

it could also be a clutch fork. mine just went and now that it is fixed, i can say that the car shifts a lot smoother and easier. it was getting a bit hard to shift between gears and i was wondering if the tranny was going or something, but after fixing the clutch fork and i think the pilot/to bearing was replaced also, the clutch feels much smoother and the tranny shifts easier.

hmm, my fd is like that sometimes when its cold, but its not the first gear, its the second.. like you can actually feel the linkage when shifting from first to second, kinda hard to explain.. but when the car is warmed up, no probs at all, 5th gear shows no sign of wear too.. thank god!! :D
