Half-size battery?
I searched but came up with nada...
I'm looking for someplace that sells those half-size batteries.. They look like an Optima YellowTop but are half the width. My accessory drive just about chewed through my stocker so I'm trying to find a solution ASAP... my KOYO ended up getting in the way of the tray so my ghetto solution to get me to work was to stick a DVD case underneath... it was a bad idea I know. Thanks in advance, ~Kris |
I think you are looking for a battery size 51R.

oddyssey dry cell batteries are the ones you're looking for. www.batterymart.com has some really great prices on them. i have the 960 or whatever it is in my car with no problems whatsoever

JaNusSolSumnus,
The Optima 51R should fit just fine (as long as you didn't up-right the radiator). I also believe that TurboJeff has one or two Battery Trays left. |
There is a lot of info on this in the forum. Do a search on Optima and/or Odyssey batteries. Personally I have heard some bad stuff on the Optima brand. I've been running a Hawker 925 with 470 CCA for 4 to 5 years now with no problems. I have info on my site.

The 925 is the way to go. Half the size & weight. 4+ years with no problems. |

First, buy this battery from www.batterymart.com for $86.00
http://www.batterymart.com/graphics/...ssey_pc680.jpg Then buy the battery mount from www.summitracing.com for $40.00 part number ODY-HDB680. https://static.summitracing.com/glob...y-hdb680_w.jpg Alternatively, try the Hawker PC925 for $105 http://www.batterymart.com/graphics/...y_pc925mjt.jpg With this holder for $110.00 at summitracing part ODY-HDB925 https://static.summitracing.com/glob...ody-hdb925.jpg |
I picked up a 51r today at Autozone.... my stock battery was just about chewed through and my having to drive to work forced me to do stupid actions like that. :(
I'll PM TurboJeff and order his tray if he has some left. I am really happy with the size of the Optima, it was indeed the correct one I was after. Thank you all, ~Kris |
does the 51r fit in the rear bins without cutting??? i heard it does but can someone confirm this?
thanks! |
PC680 works just fine for the 7 as there is not that much rotational mass. With the battery tray that Chuck sells at Rotary Extreme it is a great set up.

Anyone know if Jeff is away somewhere? I havent received a response to the PM I sent him, and I really need to find one of these trays.
Thanks, ~Kris |
Which 51R is suggested ? there are all kinds of different brands from regular battery's to deep cycle optima 51R , since the battery is smaller Should we go for a deep cycle 450 CCA one ( optima ) , or a 500 CCA ( regular high quality battery )

RISE FROM THE DEAD!
On batteries, just get a good brand of battery from a local auto parts store. I don't think it's worth the money for the Optima batteries. The RX-7 isn't some magic car when it comes to batteries, a battery is a battery. Dale |
At least he searched before posting... *claps*
I would not suggest an optima based on what people I know and the troubles they've had Like Dale said no 'special' battery is needed, although I did go with one the same size as the odyssey 925, and it works perfectly, and still small enough to be shoved in odd places... J. |
Fwiw, my Odessey 925 lasted 8 yrs--hard to beat that. Going to replace it with another one.
|
No experience with the other batteries but my 51R w/Turbojeff tray has served me well and opened up space in the engine bay. Turbojeff's battery tray is a must have as it secures the battery properly and is a very well made product.
