had motor rebuilt....have doubts that it was even touched

i need advice from the experts on this one, I have documentation that my motor was rebuilt 10k miles ago by 'maztech' in tampa, fl

after blowing my turbos and replacing myself, i realized that the claim that one of the turbos had been replaced was false, as they appeared untouched

secondly, I popped my boost map sensor hose off today under heavy driving, the car surprisingly had "a lumpy idle, black smoke, and died intermittantly"

i fixed the loose hose after almost crying because i thought i had lost the motor, and then i realized....the symptoms of the loose map sensor hose match the description of the problem on my engine rebuild sheet identically

now I have my doubts that the engine was rebuilt, i think the hose popped off and all they did was reconnect it and charge the owner $4k for a new engine/sec turbo

what recourse do i have?

If the engine was rebuilt, you would definitely be able to tell - just by looking at it from the outside will give you some indication (cleanliness of parts and joints, visibility of new gaskets) and also by the way it runs you can tell it's rebuilt. Have a compression check done and make sure the compression is up there.

car runs great...

but the previous owner had the dealer do EVERYTHING, and paid like, $300-$400 a trip, he even washed the engine once and popped a vaccum line off of some sort, and paid $350 for them to "fix it"

so i'm positive he wasn't very mechanically inclined and probably got ripped off

and the parts/joints aren't convincing me that the engine has been rebuilt, and the visiblity of gaskets? where should i look?

Take a look at external gaskets such as where the intake manifold and exhaust manifold connect to the engine block. Also check places like between the front cover and the housings. Basically anywhere there is joints. It's not a great indication, but you should still be able to tell somewhat if the engine looks like it's been sitting assembled for years or if it's been freshly taken apart and nicely put back together.

Mazda Dealers are the biggest rip off ever. They don't know anything about rotaries (usually) and still charge and arm and a leg.

how can i tell if the turbos are the original pair that came on the car....i have them removed as i've swapped the turbos

I honestly don't think you have much recourse because it was 10k miles ago. For the average US driver, that is one year ago. Most engine warranties (that I've seen) are generally 1 - 3 months or for a certain amount of miles, but definitely under 10k miles.
